As previously reported, BofA/Merrill Lynch analyst Derik De Bruin downgraded Waters (WAT) to Underperform from Neutral and downgraded Agilent (A) to Neutral from Buy, stating that he is more cautious on both following misses in the first calendar quarter and given his channel checks since then. He thinks issues that cropped up for both in China, such as a pause in spending by generic and small molecule drug makers, will likely persist in the near-term, De Bruin told investors. He lowered his price target on Agilent shares to $76 and cut his price target on Waters shares to $199.
