Wells Fargo believes Whiting Petroleum's scale and asset quality will keep the company on the shortlist of potential takeout targets. It notes, however, that last night's debt and equity offerings indicate an imminent sale is unlikely. Wells views the offerings as "logical moves" to shore up the balance sheet. It keeps a Market Perform rating on Whiting.
