AWS launches Amazon Athena serverless query service
Amazon Web Services, an Amazon.com company, announced Amazon Athena, a serverless query service that it said "makes it easy to analyze data directly in Amazon Simple Storage Service using standard SQL." While AWS analytics services like Amazon Redshift and Amazon EMR are "scalable and powerful enough to handle the largest and most complex big data applications, many customers also want to be able to very quickly run queries on data stored in Amazon S3 without having to spin up, configure, and manage a Hadoop cluster or a data warehouse. Now, with Amazon Athena, analyzing data stored in Amazon S3 is as simple as writing SQL queries," the company stated. Amazon Athena is currently available in the US East and US West Regions, and will expand to additional Regions in the coming months, the company noted.
