Companies seek to claim third spot in digital advertising spending, WSJ says

As Google (GOOG, GOOGL) and Facebook (FB) collectively account for roughly half of global digital advertising spending, companies like Snap (SNAP), Amazon (AMZN), Verizon (VZ), and AT&T (T) are seeking to secure the number three position, the Wall Street Journal reports. With the exception of Chinese companies Alibaba Group (BABA), Baidu (BIDU) and Tencent (TCEHY), "which dominate their home market-where their Western rivals are restricted-none of the would-be challengers to the Google-Facebook 'duopoly' even cracks a 3% share of global digital advertising," according to WSJ. FANG fundamentals still strong but stocks may moderate, says Canaccord
Canaccord analyst Michael Graham noted the FANG stocks - Facebook (FB),Amazon (AMZN), Netflix (NFLX), and Google parent Alphabet (GOOG) - outpaced the S&P by a great deal and he feels even though fundamentals remain strong, the shares' momentum may begin to moderate. Graham believes most of the growth opportunities in tech remain with the FANG group but he believes valuations are quite reasonable. He downgraded Alphabet to Hold from Buy and believes that Amazon is the one to own long-term.

Mindbody focus on high value subscribers the right strategy, says UBS
UBS analyst Ian Strgar said MindBody (MB) is now focused on high value subscribers, which he believes is the right strategy and should lead to a higher long-term average monthly revenue per subscriber, leading to a reacceleration of earnings and revenues. The analyst also sees the potential for an acquisition helping the strategy. He adds that its partnership with Google (GOOG) remains in its early innings and helps on the road to $1B in revenues. Strgar reiterated his Buy rating and raised his price target to $32 from $30 on MindBody shares.

Snap download trends deteriorated thus far in Q2, says Nomura Instinet
An analysis of app download data from SensorTower points to year-over-year deterioration in Snapchat download trends through the first two months of Q2, Nomura Instinet analyst Anthony DiClemente tells investors in an intraday research note titled "Snap Back Unlikely in 2Q." He points out that Facebook's (FB) Instagram downloads grew year-over-year in Q2, which the analyst believes suggests competitive pressures may be intensifying for Snap. For April and May, SensorTower has Snap worldwide downloads down 22%. DiClemente keeps a Reduce rating on the shares with a $14 price target. He lowered his 2017 earnings per share estimate for SNAP to ($3.24) from ($2.68) and revenue estimate to $842M from $953M. These estimates are well below the consensus. Snap in midday trading is down 73c to $19.63.

Piper sees Facebook revenue tripling by 2022
Piper Jaffray analyst Samuel Kemp believes the evolution of Instagram's ad units as well as Messenger's potential to "disrupt the in-house and outsourced customer care industry" could triple Facebook's revenue by 2022. The analyst expects Instagram revenue will increase from $2B in 2016 to $22B by 2021. More near-term, however, the analyst believes the stock could be range-bound. Investor expectations have fully baked in the likely upside to second half of 2017 advertising revenue, Kemp tells investors in a research note. He keeps an Overweight rating on Facebook with a $165 price target. The stock closed yesterday up $1.59 to $154.71.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Snap (SNAP) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Citi with analyst Mark May saying a slower than expected roll-out of new platforms and channels like self-serve is slowing down the pace of monetization growth. 2. Domino's Pizza (DPZ) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Longbow with analyst Alton Stump saying his checks indicate second quarter domestic franchised comparables are up 6.25%-6.75%, versus consensus of 7.4%, and recommends investors take a pause on putting new money to work given recent share strength. 3. Nordstrom (JWN) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Guggenheim with analyst Michael Binetti saying he does not see much further upside potential, even in a leveraged buyout scenario. The analyst believes a going private buyer could only pay $46 per share to generate a 10% internal rate of return. 4. Cantel Medical (CMD) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Benchmark with analyst Raymond Myers saying that he is increasingly concerned that its comparisons become tougher in the next two quarters. 5. Endo (ENDP) downgraded to Hold following Opana ER removal from market at Stifel with analyst Annabel Samimy saying Endo's recovery "just got harder" following the FDA's request for the company to voluntarily remove Opana ER from the market. Snap downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Citi
Citi analyst Mark May downgraded Snap to Neutral and cut his price target for the shares to $20 from $24. The camera company closed yesterday down 4% to $18.85. A slower than expected roll-out of new platforms and channels like self-serve is slowing down the pace of monetization growth, May tells investors in a research note. Further, he believes investors "may continue to be wary near term" of the company's user growth, which disappointed in Q1. The analyst adds that the IPO lock-up expiration in August will increase the stock available for sale by over 500% or 949M shares. He believes this could pressure the stock.

Oppenheimer checks show slower adoption by new advertisers for Snap
Oppenheimer analyst Jason Helfstein says his recent channel checks indicate strong growth in existing advertiser spend for Snap, but slower adoption by new advertisers due to platform-specific video ads, limited 3P data and brand safety concerns for user-generated story ads. As a result, the analyst removed $5M from this Q2 revenue estimate to reflect slower than expected advertiser adoption and added the same amount to his Q4 estimate. He expects all of the new advertiser headwinds to be solved over time. Snap's full roll-out of a self-service ad manager in July should accelerate new advertiser adoption in the second half of 2017, Helfstein tells investors in a research note. He keeps an Outperform rating on the shares with a $23 price target.

Blackhawk should be bought on weakness after Whole Foods deal, says SunTrust
SunTrust analyst Oscar Turner notes that Blackhawk's (HAWK) stock fell 3% after Amazon (AMZN) announced that it's acquiring Whole Foods (WFM). The analyst adds that the deal proves that the physical supermarket distribution model remains relevant. Food retailers, distributors weakness overdone, says RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Bill Kirk says that the weakness in food retailers and distributors in reaction to Amazon's (AMZN) acquisition of Whole Foods (WFM) was overdone. The analyst says he doesn't expect Amazon to "drastically change" the prices in Whole Foods' physical stores. Instead, he expects it to exploit the company's brand through Prime and its "high-population density real estate." Other food retailers include Sprouts Farmers Market (SFM) and Kroger (KR), while Smart & Final Stores (SFS) and Supervalu (SVU) are food distributors.

Verizon shares could rise to $51 but outlook still mixed, says BTIG
BTIg analyst Walter Piecyk believes that Verizon's (VZ) stock can rise to $51. He notes that the company's wireless "margins and churn are still near record levels," while Sprint's (S) CEO expects prices for unlimited data plans to rise. Additionally, the analyst believes that the chances of Verizon making "a large dilutive acquisition" have decreased, while Verizon would benefit from a merger of Sprint and T-Mobile (TMUS). However, the analyst lowered his estimates for Verizon ,and he thinks that the company's dividend could be at risk over the longer term. Moreover, he warns that the stock could come under pressure if the T-Mobile/Sprint merger falls through, while a new , "well-funded" competitor could enter the wireless space. Finisar line card still not qualified at Verizon, says Jefferies
Jefferies analyst James Kisner says he's a buyer of Finisar (FNSR) ahead of the company's Q4 results after his channel checks suggested "very strong demand" for Datacom optics. His checks, however, also indicated that Finisar still isn't qualified at Verizon (VZ) for its ROADM line card. The analyst lowered his July quarter earnings per share estimate to 52c, below the consensus of 59c, to reflect "clear public datapoints" suggesting no recovery of China near-term and no benefits in the quarter from ROADM at Verizon. Nonetheless, Kisner believes Finisar's guidance could be better than feared and he sees low expectations into the print. The analyst keeps a Buy rating on Finisar with a $34 price target.
