Citi may have 'even more upside potential,' says Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo says Citigroup remains his top bank selection, but could have even more upside potential with restructuring. The analyst believes Citi can sell parts easier than realized, especially given only ''limited'' countries where consumer and institutional are highly integrated and an ability to divest consumer assets mostly by geography. Citi should at least remain open to more restructuring, he contends. He reiterates an Outperform rating on the shares.

Stephens cautious on Starbucks into Q4, cuts price target to $52
Stephens analyst Will Slabaugh lowered his price target for Starbucks to $52 from $58 and remains cautious on the shares into Q4 and 2018. The coffee giant closed yesterday down 49c to $54.50. Slowing retail foot traffic is impacting virtually all brands with a significant brick and mortar presence, not just mall-based concepts, Slabaugh tells investors in a research note. Further, the analyst, while admitting Starbucks' "consistent" square footage and same-store-sales growth "remains deserving of a premium valuation," adds that the company's food innovation and technology engines that have helped drive "impressive" U.S. comps in recent years "could have a limit, given throughput concerns." Slabaugh lowered his fiscal year 2018 Americas same-store-sales growth estimate for Starbucks to up 3.5% from up 3.8%, below the consensus of consensus of 4.1%, and his earnings per share estimate to $2.28 from $2.32, below the consensus of $2.35. He keeps an Equal Weight rating on Starbucks.

'Third Wave' coffee shops still too small to hurt Starbucks, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst John Glass said the emergence of more "Third Wave" coffee shops have fueled competitive fears for Starbucks (SBUX), but he contends that the absolute numbers of specialty chains with 10 or more units remain small and most data sources show smaller chains and independents are flat to slightly declining in number. Recent high profile investments in specialty coffee, such as JAB's purchases of Stumptown and Intelligentsia and Nestle's (NSRGY) majority stake in Blue Bottle, are making headlines, but the brands' competitive relevance may be overstated, Glass tells investors. The analyst, who added that the last time McDonald's (MCD) pushed into specialty coffee it had "no discernable negative impact on Starbucks, and arguably even a positive one," keeps an Overweight rating and $62 price target on Starbucks shares.

On The Fly: Top five analyst upgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst upgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Starbucks (SBUX) upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Wedbush by analyst Nick Setyan, telling investors he expects shares to move higher following an expected revision in long-term growth targets in October and an update on the China joint-venture acquisition. 2. Transocean (RIG), Rowan Companies (RDC), Noble Corp (NE), Diamond Offshore (DO) upgraded to Sector Perform from Underperform at RBC Capital and Oceaneering (OII) and Frank's International (FI) upgraded to Outperform from Sector Perform by RBC Capital's Kurt Hallead, who said there has been an improvement in the environment for offshore drillers. The analyst said contracted rig utilization has bottomed and there have been modest improvements with idle rigs going back to work. 3. Wayfair (W) upgraded to Buy from Hold at Stifel by analyst Scott Devitt, who said the company "has effectively addressed the key challenges" facing " a furniture, housewares, and home improvement eCommerce platform." The analyst thinks that the company's investments have created "a defensive moat" that will improve its competitive position and wide the gap between itself and competitors. 4. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Citi by analyst Paul Lejuez who said that the company's Q2 results showed stabilization, particularly at Hollister, and the stock's valuation has become "too attractive to ignore." 5. Beacon Roofing (BECN) upgraded to Overweight from Sector Weight at KeyBanc and to Buy from Hold at Jefferies. Jefferies analyst Philip Ng said the recent pullback in shares creates a buying opportunity with its increased scale in roofing and new exposure to interior products. Ng said the Allied acquisition nearly doubles Beacon's size and reinforces its presence in roofing and diversifies into interior products, providing diversification, product growth in new areas, and new markets to pursue as a roil up story. Walgreens growth from Rite Aid stores not priced in, says Jefferies

Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) downgraded to Market Perform at Raymond James with analyst John Ransom saying Walgreens' premium valuation is not warranted and prefers Outperform rated CVS (CVS) given challenging relative comps, a weakening industry backdrop with flat FE sales and moderating Rx trends, modest accretion from the Rite Aid (RAD) acquisition, lack of further cost cutting actions, slightly larger exposure to Puerto Rico and Florida, and UK exposure, among other reasons. 2. trivago (TRVG) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at JPMorgan with analyst Doug Anmuth saying the shares could be range-bound for a longer period of time as the company works through bidding adjustments from large advertisers like Priceline (PCLN) and rolls out its performance attribution model. 3. Tile Shop (TTS) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at Piper Jaffray analyst Peter Keith citing concerns of another comp and earnings miss for third quarter as well as potential for a full year guide-down. 4. Intuit (INTU) downgraded to Underperform from Market Perform at Raymond James with analyst Wayne Johnson citing concerns the tax business is becoming more challenging to grow and maintaining 60% operating margin will be difficult. 5.
