Stifel analysis suggests ADP's margins are 'reasonable'
Stifel analyst David Grossman says that while he looks forward to Pershing Square's presentation Thursday, his analysis suggests ADP's margins are "reasonable" based on its business model and current mix of business. Management and the board has worked hard to balance growth and profitability against stability, Grossman tell investors in a research note partially titled, "They May Have a Case, Though Not Immediately Obvious to Us." The analyst believes any effort to improve margins will need to be viewed in the context of that trade-off. He also questions how much near-term opportunity has already been priced in the shares post Pershing's involvement. Grossman has a Hold rating on ADP with a $108 price target.

ADP placed on positive Catalyst Watch list at Citi
Citi analyst Ashwin Shirvaikar placed on ADP on its 90-day positive Catalyst Watch list while raising his price target for the shares to $110 from $98. The analyst keeps a Neutral rating on the name. Regardless of the outcome with Pershing Square, ADP will "tighten up its planning, delivery and operations in order to show it offers a better/safer alternative," Shirvaikar tells investors in a research note. He believes this should lead to a higher "base case" outcome for ADP, or $110 per share.

The analyst, who noted the recent Bloomberg article about the company hiring advisors, believes Cornerstone's "Plan A" is to reaccelerate growth and that its "Plan B" is to consider strategic options, he tells investors. Cornerstone OnDemand price target lowered to $46 from $50 at Piper Jaffray
In a post-earnings research note titled "4th and Long," Piper Jaffray analyst Alex Zukin lowered his price target for Cornerstone OnDemand shares to $46 from $50. He notes, however, that the company reported a Q2 billings beat, highlighted by its largest deal ever with the U.S. Postal Service. Zukin attributes the below consensus Q3 outlook to a combination of the USPS deal being pulled into Q2 and a more Q4-weighted year where the company expects a steep ramp in services sales and enterprise deals. The analyst reiterates an Overweight rating on Cornerstone.

Cornerstone OnDemand risk/reward remains attractive, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst Alex Zukin says his channel checks suggest "modest outperformance" when Cornerstone OnDemand reports Q2 results on August 3 due to conservative revenue and billings guidance and "significant" large deals activity. Even after rallying 14% in two weeks, the stock still trades at a 30% discount to peers, Zukin tells investors in a pre-earnings research note. The analyst "strongly" believes Cornerstone's positives outweigh the negatives in the short term. He remains a buyer of the shares and views the current risk/reward as attractive. Zukin upped his price target for the shares to $50 from $48 and keeps an Overweight rating on Cornerstone OnDemand.

PC shipments good for Microsoft, but to mean less over time, says Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Michael Nemeroff notes that quarterly PC shipment data called out strength in Business PC demand driven by Windows 10 upgrades, and are consistent with the proprietary data he previously published that indicated 48% of enterprises plan to upgrade to Windows 10 within the next 12-24 months. The analyst expects continued strong growth in Microsoft's Office 365 Commercial products over the next few years, but over time he estimates that Windows-related revenue will decline as a percent of its business, giving way to a large and stable recurring revenue stream and strong cash flows. He reiterates an Outperform rating and $84 price target on the shares.

Microsoft upgraded to Buy from Hold at Canaccord

Investors are underestimating the "virtuous cycles" of Microsoft's four "compelling" growth drivers, namely Office Productivity, Gaming, Marketing, and Azure's Platform as a Service, Davis tells investors in a research note. Growth in these units position Microsoft for a sustained period of accelerating growth, which should preserve the current valuation and "perhaps even drive a bit of multiple expansion," the analyst adds.
