Bank of America price target raised to $29 from $27 at BMO Capital
BMO Capital analyst James Fotheringham raised his price target on Bank of America following Q3 earnings to reflect higher than expected net interest margins. Fotheringham notes that among the top four banks, Bank of America is the only one offering positive return potential. The analyst also sees positive broader trends and an opportunity to buy credit-sensitive stocks, as "investors remain bullish on rates but bearish on credit". Fotheringham maintains a Market Perform rating on Bank of America.

Bank of America NII softness could weight on shares, says Nomura Instinet
Nomura Instinet analyst Steven Chubak said Bank of America reported a modest core beat but the NII miss and elevated bar for Q3 could result in modest share underperformance. Big bank set-up not great, would sell into extended rally, says Baird
Baird analyst David George does not see a great set-up for money-center banks heading into Q2 earnings. He said the trade looks crowded and he would be a seller into an extended rally. George said the risk/reward is less attractive following the sector's most recent rally as economic growth remains muted and the pace of NIM expansion may slow. George believes the biggest potential catalyst would be a gradual steepening of the yield curve and pick-up on loan growth.

General Motors upgraded to Buy ahead of autonomous event at Guggenheim
As previously reported, Guggenheim analyst Emmanuel Rosner upgraded General Motors to Buy from Neutral ahead of the company's "highly-anticipated" event focused on its vision for an autonomous future. GM CEO Mary Barra has said and repeated that GM's autonomous vehicles are "quarters away, not years," and he expects GM to showcase the advanced status of its technology during its November 30 event, Rosner tells investors. Capturing 5% share of the U.S. ride hailing market at 20% margin would generate $1.6B of operating income by 2025, which Rosner values today at $13B. He also has more comfort in GM's 2018 earnings outlook after the company's comments last week that the impact from its truck downtime would be significantly smaller than forecasted by IHS. Rosner raised his price target on GM shares to $52 from $48.

GM may have hard time exceeding autonomous expectations, says Morgan Stanley
Ahead of General Motors' autonomous car events on November 29 and 30, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said the company may find it difficult to top the rising expectations for its leadership in this "hotly contested" area. Investor sentiment around GM "vastly exceeds" where it was earlier this year, both because the company has executed and the global light vehicle market has held up better than expected, but also because the company has changed the narrative of the company's future to one where it can exert leadership in key areas such as shared mobility, connected and electric cars and autonomous vehicles, Jonas tells investors. He thinks GM will give a timeline for deploying fully autonomous fleets in a service within quarters, not years, but also believes its autonomous driving efforts are more likely to be a modest drag on earnings than a benefit for some years to come. Jonas keeps an Equal Weight rating and $43 price target on GM shares.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Ford (F) downgraded to Equal Weight from Overweight at Barclays with analyst Brian Johnson saying the company is starting "substantially behind" General Motors (GM) in current North America margins, and behind both GM and Tesla (TSLA) in its positioning for the "megatrends and disruptive mobility." 2. HP Enterprise (HPE) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Citi with analyst Jim Suva saying fundamentals in the company's core enterprise group remain challenging, and accelerated restructuring payments will pressure core fee cash flow in fiscal year 2018. 3. XL Group (XL) downgraded to Sell from Hold at Deutsche Bank with analyst Joshua Shanker saying the company may be underestimating the impact of third quarter catastrophes, which creates downside risk to consensus estimates. 4. HubSpot (HUBS) downgraded to Sector Weight from Overweight at KeyBanc with analyst Brent Bracelin saying the risk/reward looks balanced with the shares up 82% year-to-date. 5. Hostess Brands (TWNK) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at UBS with analyst Steven Strycula saying slowing category trends, market share loss in its Sweet Baked Goods unit and recent management turnover create an unfavorable setup. Ford bull case view raised despite 'significant headwinds' at Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas raised his 2017 EPS estimate for Ford to near the midpoint of the company's guidance following its Q3 report and slightly increased his price target on the stock to $10 from $9. While he keeps an Underweight rating on Ford, stating that the headwinds it faces are significant, he also sees the "scope for an equally significant response" and raised his bull case to $25 from $18 given a sum-of-the-parts analysis under which he values Ford's truck business, including the F-series and others, at nearly $20 per share, Ford Europe, S. Goldman sees 28% downside in GM, downgrades shares to Sell
Goldman Sachs analyst David Tamberrino downgraded General Motors (GM) to Sell from Neutral saying his price target of $32 offers 28% potential downside. The analyst continues to believe the North America auto cycle has peaked and he remains cautious on the sector. He sees "outsized downside" to shares of GM and expects a negative earnings inflection in 2018. Ford's (F) recently refreshed F-Series leaves GM vulnerable to share loss in 2018, Tamberrino tells investors in a research note. The analyst views Ford shares as more fairly valued. Visa highlights possible EC interchange changes, says BofA/Merrill
BofA Merrill Lynch analyst Jason Kupferberg said the "most interesting new disclosure" in Visa's (V) just-filed 10-K was that the European Commission may require the company to reduce its European cross-border interchange rates. The EC is focused specifically on interchange fees set by Visa and MasterCard (MA) that represent revenue for their card issuers, while their own network fees are not being looked at, Kupferberg noted. However, depending how much these interchange fees are potentially cut, he can't rule out "some type of downstream impact" on fees, he added. The analyst, who does not see any cause for concern about near-term estimates, recommends keeping a close eye on this issue. He keeps a Buy rating on Visa shares.

Battlefront 2 reaction an opportunity to add to Electronic Arts, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Evan Wingren views the negative reaction to "Star Wars Battlefront 2" as an opportunity to add to Electronic Arts (EA), Take-Two (TTWO), and Activision Blizzard (ATVI) positions. The analyst continues to believe it is a better-quality game with more content, which should win out in the long run. The bigger concern from this launch is the negative press cycle, which has crept into the mainstream attention away from hardcore blogs and subreddits, he adds. Ultimately, Wingren views the unit risk as transitory too, as long as the game sells well in its core demographic, and the mechanisms to which players could reportedly pay gain a competitive advantage are addressed.

Star Wars Battlefront II can 'rise above' reviews, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson notes that early reviews for Electronic Arts' "Star Wars Battlefront II" have been hurt by negative sentiment around the game's character progression system. However, the initial meta review score of the game on PS4 of 79 is still up from the prior version and he believes the game can "rise above" the reviews given fan interest in the franchise, unless they are extremely negative. Electronic Arts made right move in suspending micropayments, says Baird

Morgan Stanley say EA change reduces risk of Battlefront 2 unit miss
After Electronic Arts "gave in" to heavy fan criticism by turning off all in-game purchases for "Star Wars Battlefront 2," Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak said the change reduces the risk of a unit miss due to negative headlines but also speaks to how EA needs to refine its microtransaction strategy. The key now will be how the digital monetization offerings function and how well EA can create "pinchpoints" without impairing the game experience, Nowak tells investors. He keeps an Overweight rating on Electronic Arts shares, which are sliding this morning following the announcement.

Raymond James says buy Ameritrade and E-Trade on short-term weakness
Renewed concerns regarding the ability of online brokers to capture payment for order flow are not justified, Raymond James analyst Patrick O'Shaughnessy tells investors in an intraday research note. The Treasury Department's recently released report includes language that suggests downside risks for the brokers, but the topic itself is nothing new, nor are the proposed remedies, O'Shaughnessy argues. He points out that online brokerage firms are generally on board with these reforms. Further, the analyst believes the Massachusetts investigation into retail broker order routing decisions isn't likely to go anywhere. O'Shaughnessy recommends taking advantage of any short-term weakness in TD Ameritrade (AMTD) and E-Trade (ETFC).
