Citi 'getting more nervous' on semiconductors after Asia trip
Following a trip last week to Asia meeting with companies across the technology supply chain, Citi analyst Christopher Danely says he's "getting more nervous" on the semiconductor sector. While demand from the PC end market remains strong, the NAND market remains weak and data points on Apple's (AAPL) iPhone were mixed, Danely tells investors in a research note. The analyst saw signs of an inventory build and believes upside to consensus estimates is declining. He feels momentum is slowing in the semiconductor space. Danely's top pick is Microchip (MCHP) and he's also Buy-rated on Texas Instruments (TXN), Applied Materials (AMAT), Nvidia (NVDA), Skyworks (SWKS), ON Semiconductor (ON) and Micron (MU). The analyst's checks indicate slower than expected iPhone X and 8 demand but stronger iPhone 7 demand. He views this as bad for Skyworks and Qorvo (QRVO) and good for Analog Devices (ADI).

JPMorgan sees opportunities in Wireless Semiconductors, prefers Qorvo
JPMorgan analyst Bill Peterson believes the recent pullback in Wireless Semiconductor names, specifically Apple-exposed stocks, creates a good opportunity for investors to take long positions. The analyst sees the most upside in Qorvo (QRVO). He believes fears of production cuts and demand weakness are overblown. The December quarter and outlook for the March quarter are tracking to company expectations that have been built on conservative prospects for smartphone demand, Peterson tells investors in a research note.

Ambarella commentary on computer vision 'notably stronger,' says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said Ambarella's commentary on its computer vision chip was notably stronger and he expects to get much more detail in the coming months, pointing to January's Consumer Electronics Show as an important upcoming catalyst. Ambarella management said they had sampled the first version of the CV chip to automotive and surveillance customers and there is a possibility they could announce auto development relationships for CV in 2018, maybe even the first half of the year, noted Moore, who maintains an Overweight rating and $60 price target on Ambarella shares.

Ambarella share price undervalues computer vision IP, says Canaccord

Nomura Instinet lays out potential takeover targets for Broadcom
With revenues this year on track to reach $17B, few opportunities in the semiconductor space exist that would move the needle for Broadcom Limited (AVGO), Nomura Instinet analyst Romit Shah tells investors in a research note. As a result, the analyst believes the company could be looking to acquire companies in peripheral spaces. Shah's analysis yields CA Technologies (CA), NetApp (NTAP), Juniper (JNPR), Garmin (GRMN), Trimble (TRMB), Akamai (AKAM), F5 Networks (FFIV), Ciena (CIEN) and EchoStar (SATS) as possible takeover targets. The analyst thinks Broadcom shares may continue to "languish" in the near term given uncertainty with the Brocade acquisition and iPhone supply constraints. Shah, however, remains optimistic in Broadcom's ability to generate $20-plus in earnings per share in the future. He keeps a Buy rating on the shares with a $275 price target.

Morgan Stanley checks 'concerning' for GoPro demand
Morgan Stanley analyst Yuuji Anderson said the firm's checks pointed to improved sell-through and receptivity for GoPro's (GPRO) HERO6 camera, but that demand for the older HERO5 appears to be behind targets. He called the early holiday season checks "concerning," saying the combined demand for those two cameras is not sufficiently offsetting the lack of an entry-level product. Increased demand for the Ionic smartwatch and demand for older products that appears in-line with expectations leads Anderson to think Fitbit (FIT) is tracking to an in-line Q4, he said. Meanwhile, sell-through and receptivity for Garmin's (GRMN) Vivoactive 3 has been very good, Anderson added.

Report caused confusion about Micron, Intel 3D NAND pact, says Needham
Following a media report about Micron (MU) and Intel (INTC) parting ways in the co-development of 3D NAND, Needham analyst Rajvindra Gill spoke with Micron CFO Ernie Maddok at CES. Gill believes the report caused some confusion and he said the only change to their NAND agreement is that the two companies will go their separate ways in the development of fourth generation 3D NAND IP. Micron management's view is this is a "no-brainer," as being able to develop unique IP should allow the company to broaden its addressable market by 2021, said Gill, who added that the current pact is very strict on the usage of the co-developed IP and he sees no risk of Intel licensing to Chinese manufacturers. The analyst, who also believes current NAND pricing decline concerns are overblown, keeps a Buy rating and $76 price target on Micron shares.

Expedia (EXPE) upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley with analyst Brian Nowak saying he remains bullish on the company's room night supply and HomeAway ability driving faster long-term Room Night Growth, also adding that Expedia has a history of offering conservative guidance. 2. STMicroelectronics (STM) upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Credit Suisse with analyst Achal Sultania saying that Apple (AAPL) front-end 3D opportunity can add another $450M-$500M of incremental sales over the next 2 years and expects EBIT contribution from advanced imaging business to improve. 3. American Eagle (AEO) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Buckingham with analyst Kelly Halsor expecting solid momentum to be driven by strong demand for fashion apparel, particularly denim, continued upside at Aeeri, a gross margin inflection in the first half 2018 driven by merchandising margin improvement, and tax reform benefits. 4. VMware (VMW) upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform at Cowen with analyst Gregg Moskowitz saying strong data from his IT survey and recent channel checks increase his confidence in the company's ability to execute at a high level. 5. Zillow (Z, ZG) upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley with analyst Jonathan Lanterman noting that the stock's valuation has fallen to 2-year lows after underperforming in 2017. Initial Apple iPhone 8 likely weaker than previous iPhones, says Craig-Hallum
Craig-Hallum analyst Anthony Stoss says that initial Apple (AAPL) iPhone 8/8 Plus sales are likely weaker than previous generation iPhone launches as consumers wait for the iPhone X set to go on sale for preorders October 27th and live in store's November 3rd. The analyst believes lack of carrier sweetheart deals like with the iPhone 7 launch have led to lower consumer demand, with Sprint (S) being the only carrier currently offering a free 64GB iPhone 8 with eligible trade-in of select devices. Stoss also thinks consumers waiting for the iPhone X is a "strong" positive for STMicroelectronics (STM) as he believes it likely has about $6-$8 in content in the iPhone X versus $3-$4 in the iPhone 8/8 Plus.

STMicroelectronics price target raised to $26 from $21 at Craig-Hallum
Craig-Hallum analyst Anthony Stoss raised his price target for STMicroelectronics (STM) to $26 from $21 after the company reported results slightly above estimates with guidance also better than expectations. The analyst continues to like STMicroelectronics shares and believes investors need to own this well diversified company. Further, Stoss argues that many investors might think it is only a 3D sensing play on Apple (AAPL) and miss the underlying strength across all of its business segments. He reiterates a Buy rating on the shares.

The analyst maintained his Market Perform rating, as he believes Seagate shares appear fully valued, though he raised his price target on the stock to $47 from $39.

Vuzix smart glasses pact with Toshiba a pivotal event, says Maxim
Maxim analyst Brian Kinstlinger noted that Toshiba's (TOSBF) pact with Vuzix (VUZI) for a custom pair of smart glasses based on the recent M300s comes just a year after Toshiba canceled the release of their Wearvue smart glasses and views the deal as validation that Vuzix is a "clear leader" in smart glasses technology. The analyst, who sees the development agreement as a pivotal event for Vuzix, suggests investors buy Vuzix shares ahead of the ramp in revenues he expects in 2017 and reiterates a Buy rating and $11 price target on the stock.
