Himax may see 'fantastic' growth in 2018, says Northland
Northland analyst Tom Sepenzis says Himax (HIMX) could see "fantastic" growth in 2018 if the 3D sensing opportunity plays out the way that management outlined on its last call. While the growth at its large North American customer remains the easiest to quantify, the real opportunity for growth involves the Android handset vendors and the 3D sensing structured light solution developed with Qualcomm (QCOM), he contends. The analyst reiterates an Outperform rating and $18 price target on Himax shares.

Qualcomm upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Nomura Instinet
Nomura Instinet analyst Romit Shah upgraded Qualcomm (QCOM) to Buy and raised his price target for the shares to $75 from $58. The chipmaker closed Friday down 5c to $65.38. With Broadcom's (AVGO) hostile takeover attempt now analogous to a "gun to the head," Qualcomm management is likely to more aggressively focus on driving shareholder value in order to remain a standalone franchise, Shah tells investors in a research note. He believes potential drivers include closing the NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) acquisition and settling the legal dispute with Apple (AAPL). He sees these catalysts played out over the next two quarters.

The analyst sees the most upside in Qorvo (QRVO). He believes fears of production cuts and demand weakness are overblown. The December quarter and outlook for the March quarter are tracking to company expectations that have been built on conservative prospects for smartphone demand, Peterson tells investors in a research note.

Twitter upgraded to Buy with $30 target at Aegis
As previously reported, Aegis analyst Victor Anthony upgraded Twitter (TWTR) two notches, to Buy from Sell, and set a $30 price target on the stock. Anthony believes 2018 will be an inflection point in owned and operated advertising for Twitter and he sees a return to double-digit growth in that area in 2019. He also sees the potential for improving monthly average user growth, sustained double-digit daily active user growth and thinks the stock could be included in the S&P 500 at some point. Additionally, Anthony sees Facebook's (FB) decision to de-emphasize public content making Twitter a more valuable resource for video and news, making it an even more appealing takeover candidate, he tells investors.
