Bank of America price target raised to $34 from $31 at BMO Capital
BMO Capital analyst James Fotheringham raised his price target on Bank of America to $34 despite its "expense-driven" miss on Q4 earnings. Fotheringham says he remains bullish on banks based on the "indirect benefits of tax reform", while keeping his Market Perform rating on Bank of America given its two-year forward PE valuation trading around long-term historical average.

BofA, JPMorgan, Citi best positioned for tougher CCAR test, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Betsy Graseck said she had expected an easier stress test from the Federal Reserve but that the 2018 CCAR test actually seems tougher than last year, given the more intense recessions and lower asset prices modeled in it. A tougher test makes her less optimistic on her strong payout growth expectations, said Graseck, who sees Bank of America (BAC), JPMorgan (JPM) and Citi (C) as best positioned to "weather the storm" and increase payouts given their resilient balance sheets and significant excess capital. She sees Goldman Sachs (GS), which recently cut buybacks, as at risk from a tougher test, which likely weighs on the bank's 2018 ask, Graseck added.

GE likely to be dropped from Dow 30 index, says Deutsche Bank
General Electric (GE) is likely to be dropped from the Dow Jones Industrial Average after being in the index of 30 companies for over 110 years as an original member since 1896, Deutsche Bank analyst John Inch tells investors in a research note. The chances that GE could be removed from the Dow are increasing as the company continues to face "substantial challenges," the analyst writes. These include "earnings and cash pressure, tough global power generation markets, aggressive downsizing, shrinking its portfolio, management shake-up and SEC investigations," Inch argues. He sees "headline risk" as the most significant risk factor if GE were to be dropped from the Dow, "potentially amplified by GE's high mix of retail investors." Inch notes that the last major Dow shakeup occurred in September 2003, when American Airlines (AAL), Bank of America (BAC) and Hewlett Packard (HPQ) were removed and Goldman Sachs (GS), Nike (NKE) and Verizon (VZ) were added. Inch has a Sell rating on General Electric with a $15 price target. The shares closed yesterday down 33c to $15.95.

Bank of America price target raised to $35 from $30 at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Gerard Cassidy raised his price target on Bank of America to $35, citing a "strong all around performance" in Q4 along with the bank's commitment to keeping a low expense and growing top line profile. Cassidy says the bank remains "rate sensitive" and expects some $3.3B in net interest income from a 100bps move in short term rates. The analyst also keeps his Outperform rating on Bank of America, pointing to a positive impact from a stronger U.S. economy on its businesses, along with the return of excess capital, supporting a higher stock price view.

Morgan Stanley says hard to see how Skyworks will be 'unscathed' from correction
Morgan Stanley analyst Craig Hettenbach noted that Skyworks (SWKS) guided 4% below the consensus view, which contrasts with the more significant guide downs from other Apple (AAPL) and smartphone suppliers. Hettenbach, who said its difficult for him to see how Skyworks will "come out relatively unscathed" from the significant correction underway in both the Apple supply chain and China smartphones, keeps an Underweight rating and $85 price target on Skyworks shares.

Cirrus Logic price target lowered to $54 from $74 at MKM Partners
MKM Partners analyst Ruben Roy lowered his price target on Cirrus Logic (CRUS) to $54 after a Q3 earnings miss attributed to unexpected weakness in smartphone demand that began to materialize in late December. Roy also notes the Q4 outlook well below consensus, suggesting that the handset demand remains weak. The analyst keeps his Buy rating on Cirrus Logic longer term however, based on the company's ability to benefit from content gain opportunities at Apple (AAPL) and new design opportunities at Android manufacturers as well as ongoing proliferation of audio and voice technologies.

Cirrus Logic price target lowered to $36 from $45 at Barclays
Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis lowered his price target for Cirrus Logic (CRUS) to $36 saying the company last night post "disappointing" results and guided March well below expectations on Apple (AAPL) weakness. The analyst sees further downside risk as the flat guidance, while assuming the loss of the Apple dongle, also assumes offsetting revenue. He believes Cirrus is the "clearest short" in the Apple supply chain and reiterates an Underweight rating on the name.

General Electric price target lowered to $17 from $20 at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Deane Dray lowered his price target on General Electric to $17 and kept his Sector Perform rating after Q4 earnings, saying the celebration from the affirmed 2018 outlook was overshadowed by the disclosure of SEC investigations. The analyst notes the course of the investigation is uncertain, but it will keep many investors on the sidelines for now. Dray also says the turnaround in Power is likely to be "protracted" because of secular headwinds, adding that GE's expectations of 2017 ending with under 35GW in global awards is the company's lowest since 2002.

JPMorgan calls General Electric's annual guidance 'a stretch'
JPMorgan analyst C. Stephen Tusa keeps an Underweight rating and $16 price target on General Electric following an analysis of the company's Q4 results. "We are scratching our heads as to how the implied profit guide for 2018 is intact" with the $900M of miss in Q4, Tusa tells investors in a research note. He views GE's annual guidance as "a stretch." Further, the analyst does not know a how a value investor or ratings agency analyst "can have confidence in the ultimate value of the assets here." He continues to see a "levered industrial company with weak levels of FCF, with a side dish of levered finco, with a management team in the tough position, working to prevent a 'hard landing' in which bond investors start to worry about liquidity."

SEC investigation 'significantly elevates' GE's risks, says Deutsche Bank
The SEC investigation disclosed on January 24 by General Electric "significantly elevates" the company's risks, Deutsche Bank analyst John Inch tells investors in a research note. GE is being investigated for both its revenue recognition and controls for long-term service agreements as well as the process that led to its insurance reserve increase and Q4 insurance reserve charge, Inch points out. The analyst believes the scope of the Enforcement Division's investigation "could readily broaden to other areas." General Electric was not obligated to disclose the investigation but likely did so having estimated that its potential impact might be significant, Inch writes, citing his understanding of the company's position. As such, the analyst thinks GE's verbal disclosure of the investigation "could portend an extensive review that might last for an extended period." Inch points out that long-term service agreements drove $2.2B of GE's net income in 2016, equating to 24c of earnings per share or 16% of its total adjust earnings for the year. The analyst has a Sell rating on GE with a $15 price target. The stock closed Friday down 5c to $16.13.

Snap's 'next story' still uncertain, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak noted that Snap's Q4 results were better than expected, but he thinks the durability of the momentum into 2018 is less certain. Nowak edged up his price target on Snap to $11 from $10 and keeps an Underweight rating on the stock, which has been upgraded by at least six other firms this morning.
