Acxiom overreaction to Facebook news a buying opportunity, says Stephens
Stephens analyst Brett Huff noted that Acxiom (ACXM) CEO Scott Howe published a blog post stating that he has seen "some signs" that Facebook (FB) is reconsidering its new policy on data imports in light of advertiser concerns. Huff, who thinks the blog post is a potential indication of the level of concern advertisers are having about Facebook's recent move, remains a buyer of Acxiom shares as he views the recent negative stock reaction to Facebook's news as overdone. He maintains his $32 price target and Overweight rating on Acxiom shares.

Facebook expected to 'weather the storm,' says Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Ken Sena says his advertising and agency contacts continue to point to the fact that marketers with direct and purchased access to third party data will still be able to apply it to Facebook targeting. Moreover, combined with the fact that Facebook's first party data and advertiser's customer data will continue to be applicable to Facebook targeting, the analyst expects no material negative impact on advertiser spending. Sena reiterates an Outperform rating and $230 price target on the shares.

No meaningful impact on Facebook spending, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Andy Hargreaves says advertiser checks suggest no meaningful change in spending trends on Facebook and virtually no hesitancy from advertisers to continue spending. Engagement will be the key going forward in his view, and he sees limited signs of material impact to date. The analyst recommends buying Facebook, reiterating an Overweight rating and $245 price target on the shares.

Facebook headlines not hurting engagement on platform, says Jefferies
Jefferies analyst Brent Thill lowered his price target for Facebook to $215 from $230 reflect higher operating expenses. The analyst, however, keeps a Buy rating on the shares after analyzing Facebook's traffic over the course of March. Recent headlines around the company's data policies have not meaningfully impacted engagement on the platform, Thill tells investors in a research note titled "Data Shows Friends Don't Let Friends Leave Facebook." The analyst sees opportunity for long-term investors with Facebook shares currently trading at 18 times 2019 earnings estimates. Thill views the stock's current valuation as "compelling." He cautions, however, that near-term headline risk and Europe's data protection regulations could weigh on investor sentiment.

Twitter price target raised to $28 from $15 at Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak said he underestimated Twitter's (TWTR) turnaround efforts throughout 2017 and he has raised his price target on the stock to $28 from $15 given the company's better revenue outlook and high incremental margins. However, despite Twitter's better than expected results, he still sees the stock being a relative underperformer from current levels when compared to faster growing peers like Facebook (FB) and Alphabet (GOOGL), he tells investors. Nowak keeps an Underweight rating on Twitter.

Facebook pricing/ROI continuing higher, Twitter feedback constructive, says Cleveland Research
Citing a recent research into the digital advertising channel, Cleveland Research analyst Kevin Rottinghaus says that Facebook (FB) pricing continues to increase, justified by a continued improvement in ROI, and the social media platform appears to be opening more inventory on Instagram and Messenger. Meanwhile, the analyst says Twitter (TWTR) continues to improve in ad technology, advertiser/partner engagement, traffic and users, and the company is seeing some signs that ad dollars are coming back into the platform. Snap, on the other hand, is still seeing limited ad dollars to the platform as ROI and ad tech lag, with app redesign receiving cautious feedback, he contends. The analyst also pointed out that Amazon (AMZN) is viewed as taking incremental dollars otherwise likely to paid search and Google (GOOG; GOOGL), while remaining aggressive in expanding ad tech and sales channels.

Facebook, Twitter MAUs could drop on European regulation, says Barclays
Barclays analyst Ross Sandler says his recent checks indicate Europe's General Data Protection Regulation could be "slightly more problematic than Facebook (FB) implied in recent commentary." The analyst sees risk that reported monthly active users could drop off for Facebook and Twitter (TWTR) starting in late Q2. He adds, however, that daily active users are "far more important and less of a GDPR concern for the social networks." Daily users may also drop off a bit, Sandler adds. The analyst sees less of impact on ad revenue. Further, his checks suggest that most companies using cookies and tags for digital marketing should be relatively unchanged as most publishers have been using GDPR compliant notifications for months ahead of the May mandate. Beyond GDPR, Sandler thinks ePrivacy regulation, slated for 2020 and beyond, may be even more problematic for the social media group, and "accrue more control" to Google (GOOG, GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL).

JPMorgan says buy Twitter on 'overdone' data licensing concerns
JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth believes concerns over Twitter's (TWTR) data licensing are overdone. Twitter shares have declined 21% since the March 16 close in the wake of Facebook's (FB) data and privacy issues, along with broader concerns around targeting in online advertising and the potential for regulation, Anmuth tells investors in a research note. Yes, Twitter is providing enterprises and approved developers with access to Twitter's "public firehose of data" for use cases such as evaluating brand sentiment, understanding consumer trends, and providing customer service, the analyst writes. But importantly, Anmuth says, Twitter is primarily providing aggregated and anonymized data at an enterprise level. Twitter's APIs "simply make its already publicly available information more accessible at scale," he contends. Anmuth notes that Twitter's data licensing customers do not gain access to users' private direct messages. The analyst recommends taking advantage of the recent weakness in Twitter shares. He keeps an Overweight rating on the name with a $36 price target. The stock closed yesterday down 12%, or $3.84, to $28.07.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Snap (SNAP) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at Citi with analyst Mark May saying the recent flagship app redesign could produce positive long-term benefits, but the "significant jump" in negative app reviews since the redesign was pushed out a few weeks could result in a decline in users and user engagement, and could negatively impact financial results. 2. Wingstop (WING) downgraded to Neutral from Outperform at Baird with analyst David Tarantino citing the recent surge in the shares, which has left less room for upside on a near-term basis. 3. Northrop Grumman (NOC) downgraded to Buy from Conviction Buy at Goldman Sachs with analyst Noah Poponak citing valuation. 4. JPMorgan sees few catalysts for Shire (SHPG), downgrades shares to Neutral with analyst James Gordon saying he sees few catalysts in 2018 and 2019 beyond a potential NeuroScience spinoff, which he does not see as creating fundamental value. 5. Teck Resources (TECK) downgraded to Neutral from Outperform at Macquarie with analyst Matt Murphy citing valuation. This list is just a portion of The Fly's full analyst coverage. Snapchat wades into commerce leveraging Shopify, says Baird
Baird analyst Colin Sebastian believes that Shopify (SHOP) is trading higher likely on the headline of Nike's (NKE) Air Jordan III sell-out on the Shopify-powered e-commerce store within Snapchat (SNAP). The analyst thinks it highlights two points that support his overall positive Shopify thesis, namely that larger companies and brands continue to adopt Shopify's e-commerce platform, and that Snapchat could eventually open up another integrated selling channel for Shopify-powered e-Commerce sites. Sebastian reiterates an Outperform rating and $158 price target on Shopify's shares.

Microsoft has path to $1T market cap, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss said Microsoft's (MSFT) Public Cloud offering is differentiated from those of cloud giants Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOGL) as it spans from core Infrastructure Services to Platform-as-a-Service capabilities and up the stack to the application layer. This combination of Public Cloud assets paired with Microsoft's large existing customer base, developer base, expansive distribution channel, and strong on-premise technology will likely drive continuing share gains over the next three years, contends Weiss. The analyst, who thinks Microsoft looks poised to maintain a dominant position in a public cloud market, also now forecasts improving gross and operating margins for the company over the next three years. Given all of this, Weiss called Microsoft his top pick, increased his price target on the shares to $130 from $110, and noted that he sees the company having a path to $50B in EBIT and a $1 trillion market cap.

Adobe downgraded to Market Perform after run-up at JMP Securities
As previously reported, JMP Securities analyst Patrick Walravens downgraded Adobe Systems (ADBE) to Market Perform from Outperform as he believes the shares are fairly valued after having risen 69% in 2017 and a further 21% year-to-date. On the plus side, he notes that Adobe's Creative Cloud continues with "near-monopoly competitive power", its international business is growing and its CEO said on the Q1 earnings call that he expects the "momentum to continue." However, Walravens also expresses caution that the strategic partnership between Google (GOOGL) and Salesforce (CRM) could negatively impact the competitive position for Adobe's Experience Cloud.

Automation the next 'cloud wars' battle, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Brent Bracelin says the AWS Summit SF exposed an even greater focus by Amazon (AMZN) Web Services on cloud automation. The analyst believes the "cloud wars" in 2018 appear to be moving from a battle of "features" seen in the last two years toward a new battle of "automation." Bracelin sees Automation as having three major benefits for AWS: it can drive material cost savings, it saves developers time, and it serves as a competitive differentiator versus Microsoft Azure (MSFT) and Google Cloud (GOOG; GOOGL). Bracelin reiterates a Sector Weight rating on Amazon's shares.

Etsy price target raised to $33 from $28 at DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Tom Forte raised his price target on Etsy (ETSY) to $33, keeping his positive view of the company's business model as a blend of "eBay's (EBAY) high-margin marketplace, Google's (GOOGL) high-margin advertising business, PayPal's (PYPL) payments effort, and, loosely speaking, Amazon's (AMZN) shipping offering". Forte adds that his meetings with the management last week was even more impressive as it demonstrated how the company's operations are being fine-tuned. The analyst keeps his Buy rating on Etsy.

Amazon digital ad spending to benefit from Facebook scandal, says Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Anthony Chukumba says the recent issues involving Facebook (FB) and Google's (GOOGL) YouTube in customer data protection are positive for Amazon.com (AMZN). The analyst says he "always expected" for Amazon to become a force in digital advertising based on its "extensive user data, technological expertise, and deep pockets", pointing to data management scandal at those firms as a potential catalyst for migration to Amazon. Chukumba keeps his Buy rating and $1,700 price target.
