Fly Intel: Today's top analyst calls on Wall Street

Check out today's top analyst calls from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly. MCDONALD'S UPGRADED TO BUY: Guggenheim analyst Matthew DiFrisco upgraded McDonald's (MCD) to Buy from Neutral with a $200 price target as he believes the shares valuation discount to large cap peers has widened to an "unjustifiable" level given his outlook for stable to improving same-store sales and greater free cash flow generation. DEUTSCHE CUTS CONSUMER STAPLES STOCKS TO SELL: Deutsche Bank analyst Steve Powers downgraded Clorox (CLX), Church & Dwight (CHD) and Kimberly-Clark (KMB) to Sell from Hold and lowered his price targets to $123, $51, and $99, respectively. While investor appetite for defensive names remains elevated, the fundamental challenges facing Consumer Packaged Goods companies are "somewhat underappreciated," Powers believes. The analyst believes currency and emerging market volatility will pressure numbers in the near-term, while structural competitive and retail pressures will challenge momentum longer-term. PIPER STARTS MICRON AT NEUTRAL: Piper Jaffray analyst Harsh Kumar initiated coverage of Micron Technology (MU) with a Neutral rating and $48 price target. The analyst awaits more clarity surrounding the mid-term dynamics of the memory cycle before getting more constructive on the shares. The memory market as a whole has experienced favorable trends over the last few years, Kumar said. However, given the cyclical nature of the memory market, the analyst prefers to remain on the sidelines until he has a better grasp of the cycle. JPMORGAN ADDS DROPBOX TO FOCUS LIST: JPMorgan analyst Mark Murphy added Dropbox (DBX) to his firm's Analyst Focus List while keeping an Overweight rating on the shares with a $35 price target. While not convinced the "seven-day-old growth tech selloff is over," the analyst sees an improving risk/reward on Dropbox shares and potential for 30%-50% outperformance. He believes investors are "underestimating the stability and consistency of the Dropbox engine," and are overlooking the launch and adoption of its Premium plans. JPMORGAN SAYS GE TURBINE ISSUES MAY BE WORSE THAN THOUGHT: Recently published feedback from a General Electric (GE) H-frame user group event suggests more serious technology issues with the new flagship product, JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa said. While most of the focus has been on the technology around the blades, the event indicates a "myriad of shortfalls in other parts of the turbine that we find hard not to consider 'technology flaws,'" Tusa said. Tusa kept an Underweight rating on shares of General Electric.

McDonald's (MCD) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Guggenheim. 3. Ferrari (RACE) upgraded to Hold from Sell at Societe Generale with analyst Stephen Reitman saying the final version of the mid-term FY22 plan shared by new CEO Louis Camilleri in September broadly repeats the key financial goals first stated in February, but the manner as to how these will be achieved appears to have fundamentally altered. 4. Tile Shop (TTS) assumed with a Buy from Neutral at Citi with analyst Geoffrey Small saying the hard-surface flooring sector is attractive given its favorable growth profile, highly-fragmented structure and because it carries very little threat of e-commerce disruption. Catch up on today's top five analyst upgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Clorox (CLX) upgraded to Buy from Hold at Argus with analyst John Staszak saying the company offers a "favorable growth profile and consistent record of industry outperformance," with efforts to increase revenues through innovation while conducting "low-cost operations." 2. Dollar General (DG) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Buckingham with analyst Bob Summers saying he expects sustained operating strength through at least the second half of 2018 driven by the ongoing benefit from initiatives and investment as well a favorable consumer environment. 3. SAIC (SAIC) upgraded to Buy from Hold at Jefferies with analyst Sheila Kahyaoglu saying she is "incrementally more positive" and views the 10% pullback in shares since the Engility (EGL) deal announcement as a buying opportunity. 4. Helmerich & Payne (HP) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at B. Riley FBR with analyst Tom Curran citing valuation as well as the company's technology and super spec strategy. 5. Canadian National (CNI) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Citi with analyst Christian Weatherbee saying he left meetings with management constructive that the "heavy lifting" of fixing the company's network and adding capacity is largely complete and should pay dividends through "robust" volume growth, greater fluidity, and lower costs. And this improvement coincides with easier comps, as Canadian National's network "was greatly stressed into the winter of last year from a surge in volume and bad weather." BlueFin checks show Lumentum received increased orders from Apple
BlueFin analysts John Donovan and Steve Mullane say their firm's latest supply chain checks suggest "strong and stable" iPhone demand. While unit demand has not changed, the mix to higher storage models has increased, which should benefit Toshiba (TOSBF), Samsung (SSNLF), and Micron Technology (MU), Donovan and Mullane tell investors in a research note. Further, BlueFin's latest checks reveal Lumentum (LITE) has received increased orders recently while competitors II-VI (IIVI) and Finisar (FNSR) continue to focus on securing second-source positioning. The latest on the two latter companies is mixed, but overall "encouraging," the analysts contend. As far as the rumors that Apple is exploring internal VCSEL development, they believe this is "more of a negotiating tactic at this point." VCSEL demand "looks to be skyrocketing" and the frustration in developing a secure second-source has likely caused Apple to explore internal development, write Donovan and Mullane. They understand Apple has looked into fabs in Taiwan to see about VCSEL development but note the earliest this could materialize is 2020-2021. This is likely more of a "call to arms" by Apple for Finisar, II-VI, and Lumentum to increase production to meet the demand, "or else face the consequences."

Piper cautious on Micron's near-term outlook, starts with Neutral rating
Piper Jaffray analyst Harsh Kumar initiated coverage of Micron Technology with a Neutral rating and $48 price target. The chipmaker closed yesterday down 80c to $42.27. The analyst awaits more clarity surrounding the mid-term dynamics of the memory cycle before getting more constructive on the shares. The memory market as a whole has experienced favorable trends over the last few years, Kumar tells investors in a research note titled "Cautious on Near-Term Outlook." However, given the cyclical nature of the memory market, the analyst prefers to remain on the sidelines until he has a better grasp of the cycle. Additionally, he wants more visibility on recent inventory issues and tariff impact before becoming positive on Micron shares.

Dropbox pullback is a 'buying opportunity', says DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Rishi Jaluria kept his Buy rating and $36 price target on Dropbox, saying that Friday's 5% decline in the stock price as a result of lock-up expiration, along with a 21% slide since its Q2 earnings, is an "attractive buying opportunity". Jaluria notes that the recent software IPOs have tended to recover their prices quickly and anticipates no further selling from co-founders Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi. The analyst is also positive on the "underlying business momentum" of Dropbox, including its strong margins, development of new features, and ARPU growth.

GE shares worth $15-$17 without Power, extra $4 with, says William Blair
The appointment of new CEO Larry Culp and likely write-down of $23B of GE Power goodwill is likely to be the final of three chapters in General Electric's transformation announcements, William Blair analyst Nicholas Heymann tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes Culp's "exceptional" reputation and performance contract tied to GE's share appreciation, along with a final Power goodwill write-down, is likely to shift investors' focus to value GE based on its potential sum-of-the-parts valuation from the recent focus on near-term adjusted earnings, free cash flow generation, and dividend sustainability. Assuming no value for GE Power, Heymann estimates that GE's sum-of-the-parts valuation currently could be about 7%-23% above the current share price, or approximately $14.60-$16.78 per share. If GE Power were assumed to be worth its $48B book value, GE's sum-of-the-parts valuation might be closer to $20.10-$22.30 per share, or 48%-64% above the current share price, the analyst adds. Further, he believes that if GE were to sell a large minority stake in GE Digital for $10B, this could be closer to $21.25-$23.45 per share. Heymann thinks that from a "very conservative perspective," using only 50% of GE Power's estimated $48B in book value and no GE Digital minority stake sale, GE's sum-of-the-parts value might be about $17.35 to $19.55 per share, or roughly 28% to 44% above its current share price. The analyst keeps an Outperform rating on General Electric.

GE turbine user feedback suggests issues worse than thought, says JPMorgan
Recently published feedback from a General Electric H-frame user group event suggests more serious technology issues with the new flagship product, JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa tells investors in a research note. While most of the focus has been on the technology around the blades, the event indicates a "myriad of shortfalls in other parts of the turbine that we find hard not to consider 'technology flaws,'" Tusa writes in a research note partially titled "Turbine Users Feedback Suggests Depth of Technology Issues Worse Than Initially Thought." He feels the commentary is a reminder of the hurdles to a "fix" for a Power business that is already set to lose money on a GAAP basis. Further, the consensus "seemingly continues to ignore on-the-ground realities in exchange for hope around a new CEO, if the $23B goodwill charge, guide down, and CEO change," the analyst contends. Tusa keeps an Underweight rating on shares of General Electric.

Fly Intel: Today's top analyst calls on Wall Street
Check out today's top analyst calls from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly. BARCLAYS BOOSTS GE TO OVERWEIGHT: Barclays analyst Julian Mitchell upgraded General Electric (GE) to Overweight from Equal Weight with an unchanged price target of $16. The analyst said that while he does not yet know the magnitude of the 2018 guidance cuts, his talks with investors suggest they are braced for earnings per share of 75c for 2018, free cash flow of 50c, and a dividend cut of 75%-plus. PIPER JAFFRAY CUTS IROBOT TO NEUTRAL: Piper Jaffray analyst Troy Jensen downgraded iRobot (IRBT) to Neutral with an unchanged price target of $90. The analyst continues to believe the robotic vacuum market is in a secular uptrend and that iRobot will "maintain its dominant position in the market." However, Jensen has become "incrementally more concerned" with the stock's valuation following the year-to-date outperformance. NIO INITIATED BY MULTIPLE FIRMS: Deutsche Bank analyst Vincent Ha started NIO Inc. (NIO) with a Buy rating and $9.50 price target. The company's electric vehicles in China are "prepared to challenge the status quo," Ha said. Additionally, Wolfe Research initiated NIO with an Outperform and $8 price target, and Goldman Sachs started NIO Inc. with a Neutral rating and $6.56 price target. GOLDMAN BOOSTS SQUARE PRICE TARGET: Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider increased his price target on Square (SQ) to $108 from $77 after raising his 2018-20 revenue estimates given he now sees more upside than in his prior estimates across a range of Square's business lines. He also raised his multiple on the stock, saying that Square is one of the only companies sustaining over 50% revenue growth while simultaneously delivering substantial margin expansion. Schneider, who model about 2.5X faster growth than PayPal (PYPL) and about 5X faster growth than merchant acquirers for Square through 2020, reiterated Buy rating on Square shares. CITI BOOSTS APPLE PRICE TARGET: Citi analyst Jim Suva raised his price target for Apple (AAPL) to $265 and reiterated a Buy rating on the shares. Suva increased his financial model for Apple to reflect higher average selling prices and stronger gross margins given the consumer preference for higher memory configurations of iPhones coupled with falling memory prices.
