Asia Market Action: equities are mixed, with the Nikkei 0.5% weaker, China's CSI 300 down 0.8% but the Hang Seng up 0.3% after being closed Wednesday. Economic data from Australia and Japan features. Australia's employment rose only 5.6k in September, undershooting expectations after a 44.6k gain in August. But the unemployment rate fell to 5.0% from 5.3%, leaving the lowest jobless rate since 2012. The participation rate fell to 65.4% from 65.7%. Full time jobs grew 20.3k after a 35.2k gain, while part time jobs fell 14.7k after a 9.5k rise. Japan's trade balance improved to a 139.6 B yen surplus in September from a 444.6 B deficit in August. Exports fell 1.2% y/y while imports grew 7.0%. The drop in exports was the first in almost two years and came as a Typhoon impacted the Kansai region and an earthquake struck Hokkaido, so temporary factors were clearly at play in September. USD-JPY has edged lower to 112.50 after peaking at 112.72 early. The pair had slumped to 112.03 in North American trading Wednesday.
