Fly Intel: Top five weekend stock stories

Catch up on the weekend's top five stories with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. In response to media reports and in accordance with Swiss disclosure requirements, Logitech International (LOGI) confirmed it was engaged in discussions with Plantronics (PLT) regarding a potential transaction. However, those discussions were terminated. In a separate statement, Plantronics also confirmed that the company is no longer engaged in discussions with Logitech regarding a potential combination. The company added that Logitech approached Plantronics regarding a potential acquisition and, consistent with the Plantronics Board's fiduciary duties, the company entered into discussions with Logitech, but those discussions have ended. 2. Campbell Soup (CPB) and Daniel Loeb's hedge fund Third Point are close to an agreement over composition of the food company's board of directors that will end a proxy contest that was due to come to a head this week, according to Reuters, citing a person familiar with the matter. Under the deal being negotiated, Third Point will have two of its nominees appointed to Campbell Soup's board and will be given a say over who will be the company's new CEO, source said. The two Third Point nominees to join Campbell Soup's board would be comScore (SCOR) president Sarah Hofstetter and former Blue Buffalo CEO Kurt Schmidt, the report added. 3. Target (TGT) plunged 11% after the company fell short of estimates for same-store sales and earnings in its third-quarter report and it is down 15.5% for the week, but is unlikely that the business is really that bad, Jack Hough wrote in the week's edition of Barron's. More likely, investors want out of retail stocks because the entire stock market has looked balky of late, the report added. Bargain hunters might want to look beyond this past week's market carnage and lock in a discount on Target stock, Hough argued. 4. Disney's (DIS) "Ralph Breaks the Internet" topped the Wednesday-Sunday chart with $84.5M from 4,017 theaters, the second-best opening of all time for the five-day corridor behind fellow Disney's blockbuster "Frozen," not adjusted for inflation. The movie earned an A- CinemaScore and sports an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score. 5. Facebook (FB), Property (SPG), Macerich (MAC), Taubman Centers (TCO), CBL (CBL), and Washington Prime (WPG) saw positive mentions in Barron's.

Logitech initiated with a Sell at Maxim
Maxim analyst Nehal Chokshi initiated Logitech with a Sell rating and a price target of $31. The analyst notes that although the company's CEO Bracken Darnell has improved its culture with "better acquisitions, better engineering, and better morale", only a third of Logitech's revenues are tied to secular growth markets. Chokshi further states that the majority of its sales is "tied to flattish-to-declining installed bases", adding that he sees the company's FY20 EPS target of $2 per share at "significant risk".

Investors should buy Turtle Beach, Logitech shares, says DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Tom Forte kept his Buy rating and $30 price target on Turtle Beach (HEAR), saying that investors should buy the stock after the latest NPD gaming data for the month of October and tweets from an NPD analyst. Forte adds that he is also bullish on Logitech (LOGI), keeping his Buy rating and $58 price target on that stock. The analyst is citing a "record" month of October sales going back to 1995, thanks to the latest boost from gaming titles Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption 2, both of which offer a battle royale format. Forte further notes that NPD disclosed that "sales in the headsets & headphones category doubled in the month of October", and sees the "broadening appeal for gaming, battle royale, and eSports" as positive for the two accessory companies.

Campbell Soup portfolio simplified, but not enough, says Credit Suisse
After Campbell Soup announced it will divest 20% of its portfolio to de-leverage and refocus on its core businesses in North America, Credit Suisse analyst Robert Moskow said the portfolio simplification plans are not enough. He finds it difficult to embrace the company's new long-term guidance for 7-9% EPS growth and sees "considerable downside risk" to its debt reduction target, Moskow tells investors. He raised his price target on Campbell shares to $36 from $32 to account for a more logical path forward and higher sector multiples, but he keeps an Underperform rating on the stock.

Target shares 'simply too inexpensive,' buy the selloff, says Baird
While Target's Q3 results missed Street expectations, its "robust" traffic of 5.3% remains among the best in retail, Baird analyst Peter Benedict tells investors in a research note. The stock's current valuation is "simply too inexpensive" given Target's "renewed brand relevance and topline momentum," says the analyst. He recommends buying the shares on today's post-earnings selloff. Benedict lowered his price target for the stock to $93 from $100 and reiterates an Outperform rating on Target. Target price target lowered to $79 from $94 at Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Seth Sigman lowered his price target for Target to $79 from $94 as Q3 top-line results were healthy, but margin rate and EBIT dollars were weaker, which seem to take the story back a few steps, after the major reversal in sentiment earlier this year. Target's story now needs to shift to a more balanced sales and profit growth story to support higher EPS and multiple expansion, which has eluded it so far this year, particularly in Q3, he contends. The analyst reiterates an Outperform rating on the shares.

BMO Capital analyst Kelly Bania lowered her price target on Target (TGT) to $70 and kept her Market Perform rating after its Q3 results, saying that its gross margin performance and a lack of leverage on e-commerce sales are her "key" concerns for the stock. The analyst cites the digital fulfillment costs accelerating along with the company's secondary margin pressures that included additional inventory as factors impacting the quarter. Even though she sees some of these concerns being alleviated in Q4, Bania contends that the e-commerce leverage is the key difference supporting her preference for Walmart (WMT).

Target margin concerns unlikely to abate in near-term, says Stifel
Stifel analyst Mark Astrachan noted that Target's Q3 gross margin was 100bps below consensus and company guidance, due to higher fulfillment costs and the timing of holiday inventory costs. The gross margin weakness more than offsets the solid growth in same-store sales, according to Astrachan, who views the Q3 results as indicative that margin concerns are unlikely to abate in the near-term. He lowered his price target on Target shares to $80 from $93 following the report and keeps a Hold rating on the stock.

Morgan Stanley raises 'New Fox' estimates after 21st Century Fox report

Following the quarterly report, Swinburne raised his estimates for "New Fox" and increased his price target on 21st Century Fox shares to $54 from $53 based on his value of $13 per share for "New Fox" and $41 per share for "RemainCo." The analyst also noted that Fox's international cable networks came in below his expectations, adding that he believes Disney's (DIS) acquisition of Fox's content production assets and Star India, along with gaining a majority stake in Hulu, are the primary growth drivers.

Fox RSN bid may be next focus following China merger approval, says Buckingham

With closure of the asset sale to Disney, market attention is now apt to gravitate toward Disney's sale of the Fox Regional Sports Networks as a U.S. regulatory condition, with new Fox bandied about as a possible buyer, he contends.
