Nvidia, AMD estimates lowered at RBC Capital on more cautious gaming view
RBC Capital analyst Mitch Steves lowered his price target on Nvidia (NVDA) to $200 from $230 and also lowered his FY19 revenue forecast on Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to $7.29B from $7.41B. The analyst says the revisions reflect his observation of a reduction in average selling prices for GPUs of both companies in the secondary market, particularly for Nvidia's GTX 1070 gaming chip. Steves warns that the company may not be able to discern whether the lower prices come as a result of reduced demand in gaming or cryptocurrency related activity, but states that his expectations for Gaming sector are "conservative". The analyst also expects both Nvidia and AMD stocks to remain range bound until the air-pocket in gaming has passed over the near term. Longer term, Steves keeps his Outperform rating on Nvidia amid the sales mix shift toward Data Center revenues, which is seeing traction with the expected annualized growth. For AMD, the analyst also maintains an Outperform rating stating that its long-term investment story remains unchanged. In Q1, Steves sees AMD catalysts in the form a new server product with competitive performance and price relative to the current Intel (INTC) offerings.

Citi upgrades Marvell, adds Nvidia to 'Semis Christmas Shopping list'
Citi analyst Atif Malik upgraded Marvell Technology Group (MRVL) to Buy from Neutral and raised his price target for the shares to $19 from $17.30. The stock closed yesterday up 5c to $15.35. With the stock down 28% year-to-date, the risk/reward looks attractive in next 12-18 months, Malik tells investors in a research note. The analyst expects increasing sales diversification and gross margin expansion from Cavium's networking business should help expand stock's historical storage weighted price-to-earnings multiple over time. Malik also added adding Nvidia (NVDA) to the "Citi Semis Christmas Shopping list on bottom picking." Gaming expectations have been de-risked in the January quarter, the analyst writes. He keeps a Buy rating on the shares with a $244 price target. Nvidia closed yesterday up 71c to $148.90.

Mizuho cuts AMD target to $30 from $33, Nvidia target to $230 from $245
Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh lowered his price target for AMD (AMD) to $30 from $33 and for Nvidia (NVDA) to $230 from $245. The analyst, who keeps Buy rating on both stocks, is taking an updated look at graphics processing unit trends post his November 28 note highlighting the first pricing stabilization and rebound since the peak of the crypto-related bubble earlier this year. Rakesh admits that he's not seeing "any further significant uptick in pricing" since that note. However, he believes price stabilization remains in AMD and Nvidia GPUs. Revenue at Taiwan GPU component suppliers such as Gigabyte/MSI, while declining, are trending better than last year with Chinese New Year ahead, Rakesh tells investors in a research note. Further, he believes a potential launch and pricing of a mid-range ray tracing RTX 2060 could drive better gaming sales.

Susquehanna sees Mellanox as top Semiconductors M&A target for 2019
Susquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland said he likes secular themes for the semiconductor group in 2019. He prefers themes like A.I. as well as industry M&A targets. The analyst noted handset unit growth is slowing heading into 2019 and there are automotive headwinds, tariffs, and risks to PC shipments, which are causing a shift in interest. Rolland said he considers Mellanox (MLNX) his top takeout candidate in the space, also identifying Lattice Semiconductor (LSCC), Cypress Semiconductor (CY) and ON Semiconductor (ON) "attractive" targets.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Dean Foods (DF) downgraded to Sell from Hold at Deutsche Bank analyst Rob Dickerson saying he still sees four fundamental challenges facing the company: continued declines in U.S. dairy milk consumption, its low-margin structured business, increasing vertical category integration by retailers, and what he views as low odds of transformative acquisitions. 2. Owens Corning (OC) downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at Wells Fargo with analyst Stephen East saying his outlook for Roofing and Composites has weakened and extremely weak year to date 2018 hail/storm activity is likely an incremental headwind to 2H18 Shingle Volumes while inflationary cost pressures are more intense than originally expected. 3. Xerox (XRX) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at JPMorgan and to Hold from Buy at Cross Research. 4. Jeld-Wen (JELD) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at BofA/Merrill with analyst John Lovallo saying he believes the company will face challenges from the CEO search, Steves & Sons litigation, wood windows, and believes a margin recovery could take longer than expected. 5. Hostess Brands (TWNK) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank with analyst Rob Dickerson saying he is less certain on the base business' potential margin and profitability progression over the next twelve months following the company's recent earnings report. Loop Capital analyst Ananda Baruah lowered his price target on Xerox (XRX) to $40, citing the potential operating disruptions from the company's leadership "saga" and the firm position by Fujifilm (FUJIY) not to raise its bid price. The analyst says his new price is based on the stand-alone value of the company with no added potential deal related benefits. Baruah also keeps his Buy rating on Xerox, adding that there is a greater "appreciation" by the recently appointed CEO John Visentin to pass on more cost savings toward profitability.

Intelsat upgraded to Outperform at RBC Capital on expected FCC NPRM draft
As reported earlier, RBC Capital analyst Wilton Fry upgraded Intelsat to Outperform from Sector Perform and raised his price target to $30 from $5. Fry cites his expected FCC release of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking this week that will lead to adoption of the company's C-band proposal, "conservatively" estimating that this could add over $19 in earnings per share. The analyst adds that the company's recent equity and convertible debt issuance "enabled Intelsat to break the captive nature of some of its debt instruments, leaving a pathway to refinance until 2023".

Recent weakness in Norfolk Southern is a 'buying opportunity', says Argus
Argus's John Eade sees the recent 20% selloff in the stock price of Norfolk Southern from its 52-week high as a "buying opportunity". The analyst cites the company's management having "embarked on an aggressive restructuring program that is lowering costs and improving profitability" along with its recent 29% dividend increase which signals "confidence" in its outlook. Ease further notes that he sees "solid demand for the (rail) industry", with overall volume trends having "turned positive." Davidson cautious on Weight Watchers Q4, but sees near 'rock-bottom' valuation
DA Davidson analyst Linda Bolton Weiser left a meeting with Weight Watchers CEO Mindy Grossman and CFO Nick Hotchkin "cautious" on the company's Q4. After a "sub-optimal" September, trends made a come-back in October and November, but it was a "negative indicator" when Oprah tweeted the Share the Gift of Health promotion on December 4, Bolton Weiser tells investors in a research note titled "Nearing 'Rock-Bottom' Valuation, In Our View." However, when Weight Watchers reports in February, investor attention will be on the 2019 outlook and not the Q4 results, adds the analyst. And she notes that Grossman was adamant that the power of the 2019 campaign will be stronger than in 2018. Bolton Weiser believes her 2019 revenue growth estimate of 12% is reasonable and that a share catalyst is coming "very soon" as the company expects to announce new major celebrity spokespeople in the U.S. and U.K. in the coming weeks. She believes the stock, at 10.2 times 2020 earnings estimates, is getting "quite close to rock-bottom valuation," which would be $39. The analyst keeps an Outperform rating on the shares with a $137 12-18 month price target.

Weight Watchers valuation 'decoupled from reality,' says JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Christina Brathwaite believes the current valuation of Weight Watchers has "significantly decoupled from its earnings growth reality." The shares currently trade at less than 14 times 2019 earnings estimates despite a 20% earnings growth opportunity in 2019 and 2020, Brathwaite tells investors in a research note after hosting investor meetings with management. The analyst recommends using the recent pullback as a buying opportunity. She keeps an Overweight rating on Weight Watchers with a $70 price target. Brathwaite believes the programs launched to close out this year, combined with plans for a marketing campaign featuring Oprah into the New Year resolution sign up period, should drive a member growth reacceleration in Q1 of 2019.

Fly Intel: Today's top analyst calls on Wall Street
Check out today's top analyst calls from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly. GE UPGRADED AT RBC, WOLFE: RBC Capital analyst Deane Dray upgraded General Electric (GE) to Outperform from Sector Perform and raised his price target for the shares to $15 from $13. The analyst believes a floor has been put in the shares following news of Larry Culp being named Chairman and CEO. Additionally, GE was upgraded to Outperform from Peer Perform at Wolfe Research. DEUTSCHE SEES HEIGHTENED RISKS TO FACEBOOK ESTIMATES: After attending the first day of AdWeek, Deutsche Bank analyst Lloyd Walmsley sees heightened risk to the Q3, Q4 and 2019 consensus estimates for Facebook (FB). The analyst said he's starting to hear more cautious feedback and that Facebook seems on the defensive, particularly following last week's data breach disclosure. Walmsley, however, continues to view Facebook as attractively valued and kept a Buy rating on the shares with a $205 price target. JPMORGAN ADDS WEIGHT WATCHERS TO FOCUS LIST: JPMorgan analyst Christina Brathwaite added Weight Watchers (WTW) to her firm's America's Analyst Focus while keeping an Overweight rating on the shares with a $120 price target. The stock's 30% pullback from its peak on June 20 presents a "compelling entry point for investors who missed the stock's appreciation the first time around," Brathwaite said. Despite the post-earnings selloff, the analyst believes the Q2 print was actually indicative that Weight Watchers' growth story remains on track. Further, she believes the changes announced last week, including its new rewards program, as well as the company's Invite a Friend program, will help drive member recruitment and retention going forward. AMBEV DOUBLE DOWNGRADED BY UBS: UBS analyst Alan Alanis double downgraded Ambev (ABEV) to Sell from Buy and lowered his price target for the shares to R$17 from R$23. AmBev trades at a 25% higher valuation than parent company AB InBev (BUD), which is unwarranted, Alanis believes. He believes Ambev shares at current levels are more than pricing in the company's favorable outlook. Further, he expects consensus estimates to come down due to a tougher competitive environment, a "tepid" Brazilian economic recovery and currency headwinds. DEUTSCHE DOWNGRADES METAL STOCKS: Deutsche Bank analyst Jeremy Kliewer downgraded Century Aluminum to Hold from Buy and lowered his price target for the shares to $15 from $20, stating that Century's margins could remain pressured for longer due to alumina supply disruptions. Meanwhile, Deutsche's Chris Terry downgraded Reliance Steel (RS) to Hold from Buy and lowered his price target for the shares to $90 from $100, and downgraded U.S. Steel (X) to Hold from Buy and lowered his price target for the shares to $35 from $47. The analyst said his view on the steel sector is "moderating post peak pricing." Most positive data points and catalysts have now largely played out, Terry believes.

Tenneco downgraded to Underweight in 'uncertain environment' at Morgan Stanley
As previously reported, Morgan Stanley analyst Armintas Sinkevicius downgraded Tenneco (TEN) to Underweight from Equal Weight given its elevated leverage and limited free cash flow conversion in what he views as an increasingly uncertain environment for auto suppliers. He believes the stock is unlikely to be viewed more favorably by the market until the spin of the Aftermarket & Ride Performance business in late 2019, "at best." Sinkevicius lowered his price target on Tenneco shares to $30 from $40. On the group in general, the analyst noted that Q3 results were disappointing compared to consensus estimates and he believes there will be limited support for the stocks until there is more clarity around China and until guidance for 2019 is "de-risked." Sinkevicius also lowered his price targets for Adient (ADNT), Aptiv (APTV), American Axle (AXL), BorgWarner (BWA), Delphi Technologies (DLPH), Goodyear Tire (GT), Lear (LEA), Magna (MGA) and Visteon (VC).
