Fly Intel: Top five analyst downgrades

Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Asset managers BlackRock (BLK), Eaton Vance (EV), Ivesco (IVZ), Affiliated Managers (AMG) and Legg Mason (LM) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank, with analyst Brian Bedell saying their fundamentals are "unlikely to improve anytime soon." The analyst believes "investor neglect" toward the stocks should continue on fears of a market downturn, as well as due to poor fundamentals from product outflows and pressure on fee rates and operating margins. 2. Starbucks (SBUX) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Goldman Sachs by analyst Karen Holthouse, saying she remains "reasonably confident" that Starbucks' initiatives to drive digital engagement can lead to a "more stable" 3%-4% comp trajectory in the U.S. over the next few years. However, its valuation has "rapidly re-rated" to reflect this, and gift cards and digital trends could be points of caution in fiscal Q1. The analyst also downgraded Yum! Brands (YUM) to Sell from Neutral. 3. Gap (GPS) downgraded to Underweight from Overweight at Barclays, with analyst Chethan Mallela saying he believes "challenging" traffic trends and "difficult" comparisons cloud visibility into the company's sales growth momentum. Further, the analyst believes the company's cost pressures will be larger than investors anticipate and pose risk to consensus estimates. 4. WW (WTW) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at JPMorgan by analyst Christina Brathwaite, saying early in the year channel checks point to a weak start to 2019 for the company. The checks suggest traffic to WW''s website and engagement on its mobile app are down double-digit percentages year-over-year, the analyst added. 5. Hanesbrands (HBI) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank, with analyst Tiffany Kanaga citing a deep dive of the company's international business. Affiliated Managers price target lowered to $150 from $200 at Barrington
Barrington analyst Alexander Paris lowered his price target for Affiliated Managers Group to $150 from $200 following the company's Q3 results while reiterating an Outperform rating on the shares. Affiliated Managers' shares are down 45% year-to-date and currently trade at a discount to the peer group average, Paris tells investors in a post-earnings research note. The analyst, however, believes a premium valuation is warranted given the likelihood of additional accretive investments, the ongoing share repurchase program and a recently initiated dividend growing faster than earnings. He notes the company's Q3 results topped expectations.

Fly Intel: Top five analyst upgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst upgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Netflix (NFLX) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS, with analyst Eric Sheridan saying that after six months of stock underperformance as key debates emerged about competition, margins and free cash flow, the debates are better understood by investors and reflected in the current stock price. The analyst sees share upside over the near-to-medium term to subscriber growth. Current subscriber metrics such as growth, churn, spend and consumption are tracking inline to better than management's Q4 guidance and commentary. Shares were also upgraded to Strong Buy from Outperform at Raymond James. 2. Legg Mason (LM) upgraded to Neutral from Underperform at BofA/Merrill, with analyst Michael Carrier saying flows are holding up better than peers, management is de-leveraging the balance sheet, and expects potential efficiency measures and product approvals to be announced. 3. Viacom (VIAB) upgraded to Outperform from In-Line at Imperial Capital by analyst David Miller, who said now is the time to get constructive given the stock's 13.5% correction over the past 12 weeks. The analyst added that while Viacom's fiscal 2019 film slate does not impress him, its slate for fiscal 2020 looks more promising, highlighted by Gemini Man, G.I. Joe, another Spongebob film, Top Gun, with Tom Cruise reprising his role from the 1986 classic. 4. Colgate-Palmolive (CL) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Goldman Sachs, with analyst Jason English saying he expects a combination of accelerating organic sales and easing input cost pressures to drive higher profitability. Colgate-Palmolive's valuation will return to the historical premium "that it has enjoyed relative to the HPC sector once its organic sales re-accelerate," he said. 5. Tapestry (TPR) upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight and Ralph Lauren (RL) upgraded to Equal Weight from Underweight at Barclays by analyst Chethan Mallela. The analyst notes that in spite of trading at "multiyear high relative valuation metrics", Starbucks is facing slower growth and a less solid outlook for its China market. Starbucks downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Goldman Sachs
Goldman Sachs analyst Karen Holthouse downgraded Starbucks to Neutral and lowered her price target for the shares to $68 from $75. The coffee giant closed yesterday up 31c to $64.19. The analyst remains "reasonably confident" that Starbucks' initiatives to drive digital engagement can lead to a "more stable" 3%-4% comp trajectory in the U.S. over the next few years. However, its valuation has "rapidly re-rated" to reflect this, and gift cards and digital trends could be points of caution in fiscal Q1, Holthouse tells investors in a research note. Further, she has "incremental concerns" regarding the China macro environment and the company's comp trajectory in that region. Other consumer companies, like Apple (AAPL) and McDonald's (MCD), have noted weakness in China, the analyst points out. Holthouse this morning also upgraded Texas Roadhouse (TXRH) to Buy from Neutral and downgraded Yum! Brands (YUM) to Sell from Neutral.

Buy Gap, sell L Brands are Jefferies' best Consumer ideas for 2019
In the Consumer space, Jefferies analyst Randal Konik says his best ideas for 2019 are buying Gap (GPS) and selling L Brands (LB). The analyst recommends using the late 2018 selloff as an opportunity to get long consumer names for 2019. His other top Buy ideas are American Eagle (AEO), Boot Barn (BOOT), Capri Holdings (CPRI), Five Below (FIVE), Foot Locker (FL), Fox Factory (FOXF), Acushnet Holdings (GOLF), Kohl's (KSS), Manchester United (MANU), Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI), Tiffany (TIF), Urban Outfitters (URBN), Under Armour (UAA) and Yeti (YETI). On L Brands, Konik continues to believe Victoria's Secret "is broken," Pink "is a fad" that's sales will get cut in half, and Bath & Body Works is at a "cyclical peak with daunting compares ahead." On the flip side, the analyst thinks Gap will be one of the top S&P 500 stocks in 2019. He recommends "aggressively" buying the shares at current levels.

Fly Intel: Today's top analyst calls on Wall Street
Check out today's top analyst calls from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly. OPCO UPGRADES TESLA TO OUTPERFORM: Oppenheimer analyst Colin Rusch upgraded Tesla (TSLA) to Outperform from Perform with a price target of $385 following Wednesday night's Q2 results. Gross margin performance on the Model 3 will carry the stock over the next 12-plus months, Rusch said. With higher volumes and slower spending, Tesla has "reached a critical inflection point in its development," the analyst added. He noted that despite some recent price pressure, Model S and X average selling prices have remained at relatively elevated levels. Rusch said he would not be surprised to see a similar scenario play out for the Model 3. SUNTRUST STARTS MAGNOLIA WITH A BUY: SunTrust analyst Neal Dingmann initiated Magnolia Oil & Gas (MGY) with a Buy rating and a price target of $18. The analyst noted that the company is a "unique E&P" with top-tier assets in the Eagle Ford and low leverage on its balance sheet. Dingmann is also positive on Magnolia's strong free cash flow and experience in transactions management. MORGAN STANLEY SAYS FERRARI SELLOFF A BUYING OPPORTUNITY: Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas upgraded Ferrari (RACE) to Equal Weight from Underweight, stating that the stock's 10% selloff presents an opportunity to increase exposure with the stock now reflecting a more balanced assessment of the risks to the 2022 EUR2B EBITDA target. He raised his price target on Ferrari shares to $120 from $110. BARCLAYS CUTS HANESBRANDS: Barclays analyst Chethan Mallela downgraded Hanesbrands (HBI) to Equal Weight and lowered his price target for the shares to $19 from $22. The analyst sees a lack of visibility into the second half of the year following the company's Q2 results. WENDY'S CUT TO NEUTRAL: Kalinowski Equity Research analyst Mark Kalinowski downgraded Wendy's to Neutral from Buy ahead of the Q2 report on August 7. Kalinowski' checks indicate July same-store sales growth is trending below the 1.5% level and were the worst checks since February 2012. As a result, the analyst lowered his Q3 system-wide North American same-store sales growth forecast to a new consensus low of 1.5 from 2.5%. Kalinowski believes McDonald's (MCD) and Burger King, owned by Restaurant Brands (QSR), could become more "assertive" on promotions and discounting, making it difficult for Wendy's to right the ship.
