Acacia Q4 results to meet or exceed expectations, says Piper Jaffray

Piper Jaffray analyst Troy Jensen continues to view Acacia Communications as one of the better positioned optical suppliers. He believes the company's Q4 results will meet or exceed expectations and that it will issue a "favorable outlook for Q1 with solid execution in 2019." Telecom demand for high speed optics has been strong for the past few quarters and the roll out of 5G wireless services and the pending 400G cycle will provide a favorable tailwind for Acacia throughout 2019, Jensen tells investors in a pre-earnings research note. He reiterates an Overweight rating on the shares with a $47 price target.

Cisco's Luxtera deal negative for Finisar and Applied Opto, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst James Fish notes that the $660M acquisition of Luxterra announced by Cisco (CSCO) yesterday will have "mostly negative" impact on datacom focused optical transceiver suppliers Finisar (FNSR) and Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI). For the former, the analyst notes that Finisar generates about 75% of revenues from datacom transceivers and has frequently experienced Cisco as a 10% plus customer, adding that the vertical integration of the deal will diminishing Cisco's need for merchant transceivers. For the latter, the analyst notes that while Applied Optoelectronics does not "directly sell these components", the Luxterra deal shrinks its market and may lead to more aggressive price moves by the competitors. Fish also sees Fabrinet (FN) as a direct beneficiary of the Luxterra deal given its position as its contract manufacturer that stands to benefit "as Cisco ramps production of SiP transceivers."

Acacia Communications price target raised to $60 from $45 at Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst James Kisner raised his price target on Acacia Communications (ACIA) to $60 and kept his Buy rating after meeting with its CEO and CFO. The analyst says the discussions have given him added confidence about the long-term operating leverage and the strong growth prospects of the business during its key product cycles. Specifically, Kisner cites the investments being made by Acacia Communications to shift some of the silicon development activities in-house rather than using Broadcom (AVGO) for all production "as well as reduce the tape-out costs related to the move to the 7nm node."
