AbbVie downgraded to Neutral from Buy at BofA/Merrill
As noted earlier, BofA/Merrill analyst Jason Gerberry downgraded AbbVie to Neutral from Buy and lowered his price target to $95 from $98 as part of his broader research note on the Phamaceuticals sector partially titled "Preference for value, defensive + pipeline optionality". The analyst sees "limited upside to shares" relative to his price objective and also cites a more "unfavorable macro backdrop for companies with high single product concentration risk". Gerber believes that AbbVie would have to "meaningfully beat consensus forecasts on key new product launches" to reduce investor concerns over the loss of exclusivity for Humira and Imbruvica.

Fly Intel: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Apple (AAPL) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Jefferies and Loop Capital, as well as to Neutral from Outperform at Macquarie. 2. Genesee & Wyoming (GWR) downgraded to Equal Weight from Overweight at Stephens with analyst Justin Long citing his view that a re-expansion in valuation multiples could be more challenging in the near-term given North American volume headwinds in the short line network, unknowns around the PSR impact and more concerning international macro data points. 3. Lumber Liquidators (LL) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Loop Capital with analyst Laura Champine saying she reduced her margin forecast to reflect a promotional environment. 4. American Electric (AEP) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Mizuho with analyst Paul Fremont citing valuation. 5. AbbVie (ABBV) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at BofA/Merrill with analyst Jason Gerberry saying he sees "limited upside to shares" relative to his price objective and also cites a more "unfavorable macro backdrop for companies with high single product concentration risk." NextEra Energy price target raised to $186 from $173 at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Shelby Tucker raised his price target on NextEra Energy to $186 and kept his Outperform rating after its Q3 earnings beat last week. The analyst says the stock should be a "core holding within a broader portfolio, let alone in a utility fund". Tucker notes that his new price target mostly reflects the impact of the acquisition of Gulf Power but also anticipates its earnings growth of 8%-10% and dividend growth of over 12% for the "foreseeable future".

Morgan Stanley shakes up utility ratings, upgrades Atmos, downgrades Xcel
As previously reported, Morgan Stanley analyst Stephen Byrd upgraded Atmos Energy (ATO) to Overweight from Equal Weight as he laid out his favorite ideas in regulated utilities based on his estimates of their 2020 earnings power. Byrd believes Atmos' 5% discount to the gas utility group undervalues its "best-in-class" growth outlook and attractive regulatory environment, he tells investors. Byrd also downgraded Xcel Energy (XEL) to Equal Weight from Overweight, telling investors that he sees modest level of upside remaining in the stock and few near-term catalysts for outperformance. In shifting his focus to 2020 earnings power, Byrd also identifies FirstEnergy (FE), PSEG (PEG), American Electric (AEP) and NextEra Energy (NEE) as stocks in the group with undervalued growth.

NextEra Energy price target raised to $200 from $191 at Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Neil Kalton raised his price target for NextEra Energy to $200 from $191 after meeting with management. The analyst does not think shares adequately reflect the likely sustainability of NextEra's 8%-plus EPS CAGR well beyond the company's 2018-2021 forecast period. Kalton believes renewables growth should continue to surprise to the upside and NextEra should be able to execute on a series of accretive regulated utility company and/or asset acquisitions over the next decade to supplement the already strong growth at FPL. He reiterates an Outperform rating on the stock.

Fly Intel: Top five analyst upgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst upgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Netflix (NFLX) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS, with analyst Eric Sheridan saying that after six months of stock underperformance as key debates emerged about competition, margins and free cash flow, the debates are better understood by investors and reflected in the current stock price. The analyst sees share upside over the near-to-medium term to subscriber growth. Current subscriber metrics such as growth, churn, spend and consumption are tracking inline to better than management's Q4 guidance and commentary. Shares were also upgraded to Strong Buy from Outperform at Raymond James. 2. Legg Mason (LM) upgraded to Neutral from Underperform at BofA/Merrill, with analyst Michael Carrier saying flows are holding up better than peers, management is de-leveraging the balance sheet, and expects potential efficiency measures and product approvals to be announced. 3. Viacom (VIAB) upgraded to Outperform from In-Line at Imperial Capital by analyst David Miller, who said now is the time to get constructive given the stock's 13.5% correction over the past 12 weeks. The analyst added that while Viacom's fiscal 2019 film slate does not impress him, its slate for fiscal 2020 looks more promising, highlighted by Gemini Man, G.I. Joe, another Spongebob film, Top Gun, with Tom Cruise reprising his role from the 1986 classic. 4. Colgate-Palmolive (CL) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Goldman Sachs, with analyst Jason English saying he expects a combination of accelerating organic sales and easing input cost pressures to drive higher profitability. Colgate-Palmolive's valuation will return to the historical premium "that it has enjoyed relative to the HPC sector once its organic sales re-accelerate," he said. 5. Linde current price offers 'excellent entry point,' says JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Jeffrey Zekauskas sees an "excellent entry point" following the recent weakness in shares of Linde plc (LIN). The analyst does not see any good reason why Linde's trading multiple should not be equal to or higher than that of Air Products (APD). Should Linde trade at 11.2 tomes EBITDA, as Air Products is valued currently, Linde shares would trade at $172, says Zekauskas. He keeps an Overweight rating on the stock with a $185 price target.

Buckingham starts 'entry level leader' D.R. Horton at Buy
As previously reported, Buckingham analyst Megan McGrath initiated D.R. Horton with a Buy rating and $45 price target, as she believes the "entry level leader" can outperform its peers this year given its established focus on affordable product and conservative land positioning. While she is forecasting a difficult year for U.S. housing, with sales and starts expected to decline slightly for the full year, McGrath has optimism that near-term weakness could stabilize given the recent retreat in mortgage rates.

Morgan Stanley sees most, if not all, auto suppliers guiding below consensus
Ahead of the Detroit auto show, Morgan Stanley analyst Armintas Sinkevicius said he expects that most, if not all, auto suppliers will provide 2019 guidance that is lower than consensus. He sees the most downside risk to Visteon (VC) and Adient (ADNT), estimating that they may guide adjusted EBITDA 6.4% and 5.0% below consensus, respectively. Not everyone will provide guidance at the show, as American Axle (AXL) and Delphi Technologies (DLPH) gave guidance with Q3 earnings and Aptiv (APTV) and BorgWarner (BWA) plan to wait for Q4 earnings, added Sinkevicius. He estimates that, on average, the auto suppliers will guide to 1.5% revenue growth and -25 bps of margin contraction in 2019, adding that his concern is that the guidance provided at Detroit may not sufficiently de-risk figures. Others in the space include Lear (LEA), Tenneco (TEN) and Magna (MGA).

Amaturo views Lear as one of the best managed global auto suppliers that should outpace global production levels given its sizeable backlog, which should remain strong given secular trends.
