Nvidia price target cut to $275 from $325 at Evercore ISI
Evercore ISI analyst C.J. Muse cut his price target on Nvidia to $275 from $325 and kept his Outperform rating to reflect lower multiples on gaming uncertainty, telling investors in a research note that the company continues to be a top idea into 2019. The analyst says he continues to see a path to $12-$13 earnings power into 2021 led by Turing Gaming cycle, continued dominance in Data Center Training and Autonomous Driving.

JPMorgan sees bottom forming in Semi stocks ahead of second half rally
JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur expects most of the Semiconductor companies he covers to report December quarter numbers in-line with his and consensus expectations. The stocks should start to discount improving fundamentals in the first half of 2019 and should be accumulated on any further pullbacks, Sur tells investors in a research note. While the analyst anticipates another round of consensus estimate cuts in the January earnings season, he believes further share downside is limited since many of his stocks are down 25% from the peak in March/June of last year. In large cap stocks, Sur's top pick is Broadcom (AVGO) and he also favors Nvidia (NVDA), Intel (INTC), Maxim Integrated (MXIM) and Micron Technology (MU). The analyst's small cap top picks include Inphi (IPHI) and Mellanox (MLNX). In Semi Capital Equipment, Sur favors Lam Research (LRCX).

On Semiconductor stocks, Citi says 'time to step in'
Citi analyst Christopher Danely says it is "time to step in" to shares of Semiconductors. Although he expects another cut to consensus estimates, he believes it will be smaller than the cut following the October quarter. This should be good for Semiconductor stocks and would indicate a bottom is forming with the worst cuts behind us, Danely tells investors in a research note previewing the sector's Q4 earnings. Less bad earnings reductions will be viewed positively given the "poor sentiment and the second derivative is improving," says the analyst. As such, Danely expects the stocks to rally during this earnings season. Names in the Semi space include AMD (AMD), Intel (INTC), Marvell (MRVL), Microchip (MCHP), Micron (MU), Nvidia (NVDA), Qualcomm (QCOM) and Texas Instruments (TXN).

Nvidia, AMD estimates lowered at RBC Capital on more cautious gaming view
RBC Capital analyst Mitch Steves lowered his price target on Nvidia (NVDA) to $200 from $230 and also lowered his FY19 revenue forecast on Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to $7.29B from $7.41B. The analyst says the revisions reflect his observation of a reduction in average selling prices for GPUs of both companies in the secondary market, particularly for Nvidia's GTX 1070 gaming chip. Steves warns that the company may not be able to discern whether the lower prices come as a result of reduced demand in gaming or cryptocurrency related activity, but states that his expectations for Gaming sector are "conservative". The analyst also expects both Nvidia and AMD stocks to remain range bound until the air-pocket in gaming has passed over the near term. Longer term, Steves keeps his Outperform rating on Nvidia amid the sales mix shift toward Data Center revenues, which is seeing traction with the expected annualized growth. For AMD, the analyst also maintains an Outperform rating stating that its long-term investment story remains unchanged. In Q1, Steves sees AMD catalysts in the form a new server product with competitive performance and price relative to the current Intel (INTC) offerings.

Baird reduces AMD estimates, citing EPYC challenges

Additionally, he has heard that Intel is likely to take a more aggressive stance on pricing this year, after a significant price hike last year, the analyst noted. He forecasts total semiconductor industry sales to decelerate to down 3% year-over-year in 2019 and still expects enterprise, data center and parts of networking infrastructure to perform better than cyclical sectors such as industrial, automotive and smartphones, Arya tells investors. Risks, such as AMD (AMD) share loss, 7nm product delays, and tougher PC/data center comps, do exist, but now appear to be reflected in Intel shares, the analyst added. PG&E still faces $28B in liabilities despite positive report, says JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Christopher Turnure says yesterday's report from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is a "clear positive" for PG&E. With the report finding that PG&E wires were not the source of ignition for Tubbs Fire, the analyst now assumes the company is largely absolved of an estimated $7B of liabilities. Despite this favorable finding, PG&E continues to face roughly $28B of gross fire liabilities, Turnure tells investors in a research note. The primary challenges are that potential liabilities continue to exceed the financing capacity of the company, adds the analyst. He believes PG&E will face years of litigation stemming from the 2017-2018 wildfires absent its potential bankruptcy filing. Turnure raised his price target for the shares to $11 from $10 and keeps a Neutral rating on PG&E. The stock closed yesterday up 74%, or $5.92, to $13.95.

Effectively, the cost cap can now be applied to 2018 damages and potentially reduce those liabilities, says the analyst. However, he adds that since securitization isn't authorized for 2018 fires, the news does not reduce PG&E's 2018 net liabilities for now. PG&E still likely goes ahead with its bankruptcy filing, says Mehta. He keeps a Neutral rating on the shares.

Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Gap (GPS) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at Goldman Sachs while Tiffany (TIF) was downgraded to Neutral from Buy. 2. U.S. Steel (X) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Jefferies with analyst Seth Rosenfeld saying "poor" Q4 earnings and Q1 guides will begin to reflect the extent of recent steel margin weakness. 3. Fortinet (FTNT) downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at BMO Capital with analyst Keith Bachman saying he is not bearish on the stock, expecting the firewall market to remain healthy for several years given the changing throughput requirements, but sees the rating change as reflective of its more balanced risk-reward. 4. Crispr Therapeutics (CRSP) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at Citi with analyst Yigal Nochomovitz saying Crispr's near-term valuation driver and lead program in related blood disorders "substantially lags" more advanced competitors. 5. AMC Entertainment (AMC) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at B. Riley FBR with analyst Eric Wold saying the ramp of the company's subscription service Stubs A-List clouds its EBITDA visibility. Autohome price target lowered to $105 from $125 at Benchmark
Benchmark analyst Fawne Jiang lowered her price target on Autohome shares to $105 from $125 despite what she called "another solid quarter," due to cutting her estimates related to a slowdown in overall auto industry growth. However, she expects the company to maintain core business growth with continued wallet share gains and keeps a Buy rating on Autohome.
