Cowen says latest U.S. survey shows Netflix maintains living room lead
Cowen analyst John Blackledge said he expect solid results from Netflix (NFLX) when the company reports Q1 earnings on April 16, noting that the company's Original programming hours are up 34% year-over-year, which he views as a tailwind. The firm's monthly recurring proprietary survey of 2,500 U.S. consumers again highlighted Netflix's "leadership in the living room," particularly among Millennials, said Blackledge. When asked which platforms they use most often to view video content on TV, Netflix held the top position with 26.2% of total survey respondents, followed by basic cable, broadcast television and Google's (GOOGL) YouTube, noted Blackledge. He keeps an Outperform rating and $455 price target on Netflix shares.

Chrome changes overblown, buying opportunity for Rubicon, says Craig-Hallum
Craig-Hallum analyst Jason Kreyer believes the recent pullback in Rubicon Project (RUBI) shares creates a buying opportunity. Shares were down nearly 10% last week following rumors that Google (GOOG) could make privacy changes to its Chrome browser, he notes. The analyst does not anticipate this creating any fundamental headwinds for Rubicon Project and believes management's focus on releasing a suite of tools for publishers positions the company for further competitive gains. He reiterates a Buy rating and $8 price target on Rubicon's shares.

FTC officials seem to spotlight Facebook, Amazon for scrutiny, says Cowen
After FTC Chairman Joe Simons and Competition Bureau Director Bruce Hoffman spoke at the American Bar Association's annual antitrust conference on Friday, Cowen analyst Paul Gallant said his read of some of Simons' comments on "consummated mergers" is that they seem directed toward Facebook (FB) deals like Instagram and Whatsapp and/or Google's (GOOGL) past ad tech acquisitions. Hoffman "also seemed to lean forward on tech," said Gallant, who sees some of Hoffman's comments on a prior ruling about American Express (AXP) as making Amazon (AMZN) more of an antitrust target than he expected. The analyst also noted that Sarah Oxenham-Allen, Chair of the State Attorney Generals Task Force on Antitrust, spoke at the event and he sees her comments as underscoring that state AGs are a "legitimate threat" on antitrust and privacy for Facebook and Google.

Local ad survey positive for Google and Facebook, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analysts led by Benjamin Swinburne and Brian Nowak said the firm's annual local ad survey showed that expectations to grow marketing budgets remained robust. The survey results were positive for Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) and Facebook (FB), as Google's search and Instagram stood out as having strong year-over-year increases in the number of small and medium businesses pointing to each as providing "the highest ROI," the analysts noted. Twitter (TWTR) and Yelp (YELP) both fell in terms of usage by local advertisers, the analysts also noted. Outdoor continues to slowly pick up budget share, according to the survey, which makes the analysts incrementally positive on Lamar Advertising (LAMR) and Outfront Media (OUT), they added.

Guggenheim upgrades Facebook to Buy with $200 price target
Guggenheim analyst Michael Morris upgraded Facebook to Buy from Neutral and raised his price target for the shares to $200 from $175. The social media giant closed yesterday down 66c to $173.54. Investors will continue to gain comfort with the incremental financial risk created by Facebook's content and privacy concerns, Morris tells investors in a research note. Further, the analyst believes the company's usage trends have remained "solid" and sees the potential for commerce and messaging monetization opportunities "as attractively priced within shares." Morris expects Facebook shares to outperform his broader Media & Entertainment coverage given its "above-average growth rate at a modest premium to overall market valuation."

Guggenheim downgrades Roku on increasing competition from Apple, Amazon
Guggenheim analyst Michael Morris downgraded Roku (ROKU) to Neutral from Buy and lowered his price target for the shares to $72 from $77. The stock closed yesterday down 3%, or $2.04, to $68.60. Morris this morning also upgraded Facebook (FB) to Buy from Neutral with a $200 price target. Apple's (AAPL) video product unveiled on March 25 represents an additional risk to Roku's active user base, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Further, Amazon's (AMZN) and Viacom's (VIAB) greater pushes into advertising video on demand are also increasing competition on Roku, Morris contends. He adds that Roku CFO Steve Louden's sale of 100,000 shares has also "shaken" his confidence in the stock. Nonetheless, the analyst's view of the "strong" secular streaming and targeted video advertising tailwinds that the company is positioned to benefit from is unchanged.

Facebook break-up unlikely, says Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Alan Gould kept his Buy rating and $200 price target on Facebook after holding a call with a "leading Washington expert on antitrust and a former general counsel to the Senate Antitrust Committee, Seth Bloom". The analyst says the expert suggested that the company may have to pay a "major fine" of up to $5B to resolve the alleged violation of its 2011 consent decree and the regulators may ask for some changes in management such as requesting that CEO Zuckerberg resigns from his post as Chairman. However, Gould believes that proving anti-competitive behavior allowing the government to break up Facebook would be difficult. The analyst maintains his view that the shares are "attractively priced", particularly given the value of monetization from its WhatsApp and Messenger platforms.

Netflix recent underperformance brings good buying opportunity, says JPMorgan
Netflix (NFLX) shares are up 4% since its Q4 earnings report but are still underperforming the S&P 500 Index's 9% rally and average Internet peer gain of 8% despite the "strong" results, JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes Netflix shares have been weighed down by uncertainty around the U.S./Latin America price increase impact on churn net additions in the first half of 2019, as well as the overhang from competitor launches out of Disney (DIS) and Apple (AAPL). However, the recent Netflix share price underperformance represents a good buying opportunity, Anmuth contends. He notes that he recently added the stock as one of his top picks along with Facebook (FB), Amazon.com (AMZN) and Twitter (TWTR). Anmuth believes the underlying secular shift toward on-demand entertainment "remains strong" and that competitive fears around Netflix are overdone. The company is on track to have 200M-plus global paid subscribers in 2021 and its U.S. revenue growth should accelerate from Q1 levels through 2019, contends the analyst. He reiterates an overweight rating on Netflix with a $435 price target, which represents 19% upside from current levels. The streaming service closed yesterday up $10.40, or 3%, to $366.96.

Jefferies analysis suggests Amazon shares can hit $3,000 in two years
Jefferies analyst Brent Thill continues to see 27% near-term upside from current levels for shares of Amazon.com but longer-term, he sees a roadmap to a $3,000-plus stock price. The analyst keeps a Buy rating on Amazon with a $2,300 price target. The stock closed yesterday at $1,813.98. Despite rallying 21% year-to-date, the shares remain "deeply undervalued," Thill tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes many any of Amazon's embedded growth opportunities are underappreciated "and the optionality from new initiatives is not reflected in the stock." His updated sum-of-the-parts analysis, based on estimate 2022 revenue, suggests ~65% upside to potential value of $3,000 in two years. The analysis is based on "relatively conservative" assumptions, particularly about growth in Amazon's most profitable segments - Web Services, advertising, and third party seller services. Thill believes Amazon has "just scratched the surface" in many of its existing markets.

Jefferies boosts Snap target to $11 after management meeting, keeps Hold rating
Jefferies analyst Brent Thill raised his price target for Snap to $11 from $9 after meeting with management. The analyst came away "generally impressed" with the "cohesion and positive steps" on the company's "road to recovery." While still early in the recovery, Snap has taken positive steps to internally improve, Thill tells investors in a research note. The Android rebuild roll-out is still early, but results are promising for full release by year end, the analyst adds. Further, he believes Snap's engagement "remains healthy" and that increasing partnerships and localization will help to continue to drive deeper reach. Thill's higher target reflects an increased multiple as well as Snap's increased monetization opportunity and expense control. Even with the shares up 80% year-to-date, investor sentiment continues to remain negative and there is opportunity for long term investors, the analyst contends. However, he feels Snap is "not out of the woods yet" and keeps a Hold rating on the name.

Snap upgraded to Buy from Neutral at BTIG
BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield upgraded Snap to Buy with a price target of $15, citing the "surge in spending in North America on Snapchat from advertisers", who are increasingly focused on its "compelling" return on investment. The analyst states that the low relative bid prices on advertising inventory for Snap started in Q3 and "really picked up" in Q4, anticipating direct impact on the company's revenue in 2019. Greenfield also cites the "meaningful reduction in clickbait/seedy influencer content" in Snap's Discover section and an increase in the "premium/publisher content - illustrating a change in the underlying algorithm, along with improved morale relative to "all-time lows" in 2018 after hiring of a number of new senior executives.

Morgan Stanley says Microsoft positioning 'best in tech' after surveying CIOs
Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss said his firm's latest survey of 100 U.S. and European Chief Information Officers show they expect 4.6% budget growth in 2019, which is down slightly from the 4.8% budget growth forecast in 2018. Software is seen being the fastest growing sector within IT, according to the survey, and Microsoft's differentiated Public Cloud offering and solution portfolio positions it as "the top secularly positioned firm in Tech" as the IT conversation shifts from pure Public Cloud toward Hybrid Cloud architectures, Weiss tells investors. Microsoft price target raised to $125 from $115 at JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Mark Murphy raised his price target for Microsoft to $125 from $115 following a round of conversations with industry contacts and speaking with management in recent weeks. The shares closed yesterday down $1.14 to $116.77. Murphy now has higher conviction that Microsoft's business will reaccelerate post the tough comps upcoming in its fiscal Q4. Channel checks indicate a "consistent and healthy" demand environment with no degradation, especially for Azure, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Further, he points out that June and September quarter revenue growth estimates for Microsoft have recalibrated down from 9.3% and 14.1% respectively six months ago, to 8.4% and 9.5% respectively currently. Consensus estimates are in a better place today and are much closer to reality as compared to a few months ago, says the analyst. He reaffirms an Overweight rating on the stock.
