FCC's O'Rielly says could take until next year to conduct 5G auction
The FCC released remarks made by FCC Commissioner Michael O'Rielly before the Wireless Connect 2019. O'Rielly commented on 5G services, saying that "Going forward, I will continue to pressure the FCC to get these frequencies into the hands of wireless providers as quickly as possible, but, unfortunately, I have been informed that it may take until next year at the earliest to conduct an auction. As I said, things always tend to take longer than they should in the government, and apparently reconstructing auction software over and over takes some time." He added that "Thankfully, 3.5 GHz spectrum should be available shortly under general authorized access, or the unlicensed tier." Shares of Intelsat, which delivers video and broadband services, are down 0.52% to $15.32 in afternoon trading.
