Lyft initiated with a Hold at HSBC
HSBC analyst Masha Kahn started Lyft (LYFT) with a Hold rating and $60 price target. While the analyst sees a shift from car ownership to the transportation as a service model, she believes "costs need to fall dramatically" for ride-hailing to cover all transportation needs. Further, since number two players will always scale at a lower margin than dominant players, Lyft deserves a discount to other ride-hailing players that dominate their markets, Kahn tells investors in a research note. The analyst highlight Russia's Yandex (YNDX) as a "significantly less expensive way to gain exposure to ride-hailing."

Fly Intel: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Apple (AAPL) downgraded to Reduce from Hold at HSBC with analyst Erwan Rambourg saying the returns from Apple's recent announcements, including the Apple News+ premium news subscription, the Apple Card in partnership with Goldman Sachs (GS), Apple Arcade games as part of the App store and video subscription Apple TV+, could "take some time to extract." 2. AmerisourceBergen (ABC) downgraded to In Line from Outperform at Evercore ISI with analyst Michael Cherry citing group profit questions, lack of clarity with PharMEDium, and a reduction in multiple for peers Cardinal Health (CAH) and McKesson (MCK). 3. Novartis (NVS) downgraded to Underweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley with analyst Mark Purcell saying the spinoff of Alcon will put more attention on the generics risk Novartis faces in its pharma business. 4. TerraForm Power (TERP) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at Goldman Sachs with analyst Brian Lee saying that while the company is in the midst of an operational transition that may improve cash flow and dividend flexibility, the upside appears to be priced in. 5. Foot Locker (FL) assumed with a Neutral from Buy at Citi with analyst Paul Lejuez saying while Foot Locker has "tailwinds at its back" in North America with comps inflecting positively in Q4, the company still faces many of the same headwinds as other specialty retailers given its "significant" mall exposure and EBIT pressure from direct-to-consumer. iPhone supplier tracker improved in March, says JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee says his iPhone supplier tracker improved in March. Aggregate iPhone revenues returned to growth in the month of March, "supporting recent anecdotal evidence of bottoming out of headwinds," Chatterjee tells investors in a research note. Month-over-month, aggregate revenues rose by 34% in March, following four months of sequential declines, and compares to a 21% increase seen historically going from the month of February to March, says the analyst. On a quarterly basis, Chatterjee says iPhone supplier aggregate revenues decelerated to 2% year-over-year in Q1 from up 7% in Q4 of 2018. The deceleration in supplier revenue growth points to continued iPhone revenue declines in Q2, albeit to a lesser degree, contends the analyst.

Apple iPhone inventory/demand remains stable, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh says his latest carrier checks indicate Apple (AAPL) iPhone inventories have stabilized in March with sell-through tracking largely in line with stores' expectation. Meanwhile, feedback on the Samsung (SSNLF) GS10 has been "overwhelmingly positive," as most stores believe the new features have been a factor in driving sales, and keeping inventories at healthy levels, he contends. Given stabilizing iPhone trends and better than expected GS10 demand, the analyst sees favorable risk/reward for the mobile supply chain. Vinh recommends investors buy Broadcom (AVGO) and Qorvo (QRVO).

The analyst believes that VMWare's guidance also implies "slowing incremental Dell synergies and accelerating AWS (AMZN) synergies", which he sees as likely "priced in".

BofA double downgrades HP Inc. to Underperform after earnings
As previously reported, BofA analyst Wamsi Mohan downgraded HP Inc. two notches, to Underperform from Buy, following the company's Q1 report last night. His prior thesis was built on expectations for stability in high margin print supplies, which he now has lower confidence in, he tells investors. Mohan sees volatility in supplies growth leading to lower confidence in predictability and he thinks the company's unchanged guidance looks high given the shortfall in supplies. He also worries about cash flow headwinds from higher restructuring costs and investments while calling out the risk of an incremental PC slowdown. Mohan cut his price target on HP Inc. shares to $19 from $30.

Morgan Stanley downgrades Yeti to Equal Weight after stock doubled year-to-date
Morgan Stanley analyst Kimberly Greenberger downgraded Yeti to Equal Weight from Overweight, stating that while she remains constructive on the company's long-term outlook, she sees much of the good news being priced in with the stock having advanced 115% year-to-date. The stock, which has risen 77% above its IPO price from last October, appears to be pricing in 5-plus years of mid-teens percentage revenue growth, which compares to her base case estimate of 11% growth, Greenberger tells investors. She raised her price target on Yeti shares to $32 from $26, driven by an increased multiple as peers have re-rated higher.

The company is gaining traction in new colorways, cooler demand is strengthening, shelf space at Dick's (DKS) is growing, and e-commerce conversion is improving, Konik tells investors in a research note. Senate hearing a net positive for PBMs, says Cantor Fitzgerald
Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Steven Halper views yesterday's Senate hearing as a net positive for the pharmacy benefit managers. The PBMs represented were Cigna (CI), CVS Health (CVS), UnitedHealth (UNH), Humana (HUM) and Prime Therapeutics. Although the Senators were not supportive of the PBMs, the executives responded well to questions and put forth a solid effort to address concerns regarding their business model and incentives, Halper tells investors in a research note. Overall, he views the hearing as a net positive for PBMs "as the group was able to counter the negative sentiment with constructive responses, recognizing this story is far from over."

SunTrust lowers price targets on CVS, raises price target on WellCare
SunTrust analyst David MacDonald lowered his price target on CVS (CVS) to $65 from $85 as part of his broader research note previewing Q1 results for the healthcare services stocks. The analyst expects the quarter to reflect the company's challenges around reimbursement pressure, fewer generics, and lower brand inflation that should be a detriment to retail pharmacy and long-term-care businesses, even though he maintains a bullish view on the stock longer term based on its risk-reward profile. MacDonald also raises his price target on WellCare (WCG) to $340 from $305, saying his bullish expectation for the stock is driven by the company's "strong core trends, high visibility, and superb win rate". The analyst also cites the pending WellCare acquisition by Centene (CNC) yielding a "meaningful combined pharmacy opportunity and increased diversification" from an expanded "Medicaid footprint".

Morgan Stanley says Walgreens' reimbursement pressure points to distributor risk
Morgan Stanley analyst Ricky Goldwasser said the guidance cut made by Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) is due to the same "perfect storm of industry headwinds" addressed by CVS Health (CVS) earlier in the year, including increased reimbursement pressure, lower generic deflation, lower brand inflation and declining comparable sales in the front-end of the store. Though Walgreens management suggested reimbursement headwinds should normalize in fiscal 2020, Goldwasser said he could see more downside from continued reimbursement headwinds and structural changes if new rebate rule comes into play. He also views pharmacy reimbursement pressure as a leading indicator suggesting risk to distributors' sell side margins and earnings, including for AmerisourceBergen (ABC), which Goldwasser notes is part of the WBAD purchasing consortium. Other drug distributors include McKesson (MCK) and Cardinal Health (CAH).

First Solar, Canadian Solar likely to beat quarter estimates, says BofA/Merrill
BofA/Merrill analyst Brian Lee says that despite the strong year-to-date outperformance across the group, he would lean into solar stocks heading into Q4 earnings as he sees momentum likely to persist for stocks that can beat, namely First Solar (FLSR) and Canadian Solar (CSIQ). Fundamentally, the analyst expects a much more constructive tone from companies heading into 2019, and sees both companies as best positioned to beat given First Solar's better margins and Canadian Solar's project sales that consensus is not capturing. On the flipside, Lee reiterates a Sell rating on SolarEdge (SEDG), which he sees as having the highest idiosyncratic risk and lower estimates owing to recent M&A that appears both dilutive and a key investor focus point.

Goldman Sachs sees 'brighter future', 'rising demand' in global solar sector
Goldman Sachs analyst Brian Lee writes that the outperformance of the U.S. solar sector early in 2019 highlights its better than expected positive inflection of demand trends, also raising his demand forecast for the next 3 years by an average of 10%-15%. Lee says his top ideas are First Solar (FSLR), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), and Vivint Solar (VSLR), which he rates at Buy with respective $64, $26, and $6.50 price targets. Although solar stocks have "rebounded sharply off of last year's depressed levels", Lee notes that fundamentals are still in the early stages of a cyclical recovery amid signs of pricing stabilization and demand trends gathering momentum.
