Disney+ content, ARPU 'compelling', says RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Steven Cahall kept his Top Pick rating and $140 price target on Disney after its Investor Day, saying the presentation "exceeded expectations and should turn sentiment bullish." The analyst sees Disney+ content and expectations of average revenue per user as "compelling" while noting that the guidance for subscribers was "significantly higher" than expected. Cahall believes that Disney stock can rise above $130 "in short order" and extend gains to $140 within the next 12 months.

Disney+ not a 'strong alternative' to Netflix, says SunTrust
SunTrust analyst Matthew Thornton keeps his Buy rating on Netflix (NFLX) after Disney's (DIS) Disney+ investor day presentation, saying that while he continues to view the platform posing incremental competition for new subscriber adds, he expects it to be "manageable". The analyst notes that the Disney+ event contained "no big surprises in terms of pricing, timing, availability, and content", adding that the accelerated cord-cutting from the launch should also be positive for Netflix, which offers a "much broader range of content". Thornton further states that Disney+ should be a "modest incremental positive" for his Buy-rated Roku (ROKU) as it will be available for sale on its platform given its "potential for direct monetization."

Disney reinstated with an Overweight at JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Alexia Quadrani reinstated coverage of Disney with an Overweight rating and $137 price target. Prior to going restricted, the analyst had an Overweight rating and $125 price target on the shares. Disney "surprised on the upside" at last night's investor meeting by providing more financial disclosure and revealing a more content rich streaming service than previously expected, Quadrani tells investors in a research note. In addition, management provided a target for the Disney+ streaming service of 60M-90M subscribers by fiscal 2024, which the analyst notes is on the higher end of her already above consensus expectations. Quadrani walked away from the meeting "very encouraged about the outlook and its likely success."

Morgan Stanley says Disney+ sub outlook, profitability path better than expected
Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne said Disney's (DIS) target for 60M-90M Disney+ subscribers by year-end 2024 was well above his prior 30M subscriber expectation and that the company's guidance for roughly 110M-160M subscriptions for its three major OTT subscription services by 2024 was also well ahead of his forecast for just over 90M. Profitability by FY24 is also earlier than his expectations, noted Swinburne, who believes Disney's expected timeline for DTC profitability has positive implications for long-term EPS. While there may be short-term pressure on Netflix (NFLX) following the Disney investor day, Swinburne advises investors use any selloff as a buying opportunity, citing his view that Netflix will still be offering greater breadth and volume of content. The analyst keeps Overweight ratings on Disney and Netflix shares.

UPS (UPS) upgraded to Buy from Hold at Berenberg with analyst Joel Spungin saying he is increasingly confident that UPS will deliver margin improvement in both its International business and the U.S. this year, following an in-depth review of European parcel markets. 2. AstraZeneca (AZN) upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform at Cowen with analyst Steve Scala saying the 5% stock decline on news of the company's partnership with Daiichi Sankyo for trastuzumab deruxtecan, which he calls a "promising" breast cancer drug, offers a compelling entry point. 3. Energizer (ENR) upgraded to Conviction Buy from Neutral at Goldman Sachs with analyst Jason English saying he sees a credible path to top-tier EBIT, EBITDA and EPS growth over the next three years "fueled almost entirely" by debt-reduction and synergies from its recently completed deals for the Global Battery & Lighting business and Global Auto Care business of Spectrum Brands (SPB). 4. Anadarko (APC) resumed with a Buy from Neutral at Citi with analyst Robert Morris citing the stock's underperformance over the past three months and the company's recent success in the Delaware Basin for the upgrade. 5. F5 Networks (FFIV) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Nomura Instinet with analyst Jeffrey Kvaal saying "long an out-of-favor name," F5 shares are now ~25% below their 2018 peak following the acquisition of Nginx. Anadarko selloff brings 'compelling entry point,' says JPMorgan
Following a disappointing Q4 report and "mixed messaging" from the conference call, Anadarko Petroleum shares have been under intense pressure with the stock now representing the worst performing large cap equity on a year-to-date basis, JPMorgan analyst Arun Jayaram tells investors in a research note. The analyst, while understanding investor frustration, says Anadarko "has faced unique growth headwinds" over the past two years, including the 2017 Firestone incident in the DJ Basin and temporary suspension of completion activity, capital inefficiencies associated with strategic operatorship capture activities in the Delaware Basin, and infrastructure bottlenecks in the Delaware Basin amid construction activities for the tankless gathering system. In 2019, these headwinds to growth "are finally in the rear view mirror," says Jayaram. The analyst expects Anadarko's "performance relative to expectations to improve" and he keeps an Overweight rating on the name while reducing his price target to $65 from $67. He views current share levels as a "compelling entry point."

Morgan Stanley starts Chevron at Overweight, Exxon Mobil at Equal Weight
As previously reported, Morgan Stanley analyst Devin McDermott initiated Chevron (CVX) with an Overweight rating and $146 price target and started Exxon Mobil (XOM) with an Equal Weight rating and $84 price target as he began coverage of the U.S. Integrated Oil space with an In-Line industry view. While Exxon and Chevron generated a combined $35B in organic free cash flow in 2018, McDermott contends that "the cash flow profile should diverge for these two companies" from here as Chevron focuses on measured spending and strong free cash flow while Exxon pursues an "aggressive" countercyclical growth strategy. Exxon's strategy could pay off in the long term, if properly executed, but "cash flow drives stock performance in Big Oil," McDermott tells investors.

Goldman downgrades California Resources, Chesapeake to Sell, upgrades Murphy
Within the Exploration and Production space, Goldman Sachs analyst Brian Singer recommends selling stocks where the valuation post recent rallies "appears at odds" with the company's competitive positioning. With that in mind, Singer downgraded both California Resources (CRC) and Chesapeake Energy (CHK) to Sell from Neutral. California Resources has a low decline rate and competitive supply cost but unfavorable debt cost that does not warrant the extent of its current valuation premium, says the analyst. For Chesapeake, Singer sees less favorable supply cost and corporate returns. The analyst also upgraded Murphy Oil (MUR) to Neutral from Sell. He believes the stock's current valuation appears more in line with its competitive positioning. Singer recommends buying "low cost oil suppliers" Encana (ECA), Parsley Energy (PE), Pioneer Natural (PXD) and EOG Resources (EOG) and Chevron (CVX).

Jefferies downgrades Financials to Underweight on 'shocking' Fed meeting
Jefferies analyst Steven DeSanctis is "very surprised" by last week's Federal Reserve's decision taking rate hikes completely off table in 2019. The "shocking" Fed meeting means lower rates for longer, which is not good for Financials, DeSanctis tells investors in a research note. A "lack of catalysts and weaker earnings growth" going forward for the entire sector, not just banks, means an Underweight rating on the space makes sense, says the analyst. As such, he downgraded his rating on the Financial sector to Underweight from Market Weight. Publicly traded companies in the space include Bank of America (BAC), Citi (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), JPMorgan (JPM), Morgan Stanley (MS), U.S. Bancorp (USB) and Wells Fargo (WFC).

Allegheny guidance cut 'appears inevitable' after Q1 warning, says Cowen
Cowen analyst Gautam Khanna noted that Allegheny Technologies' (ATI) Q1 pre-announcement of EPS well below consensus did not include an update to the company's 2019 guidance, but he believes a "formal cut appears inevitable" when the company announces its full results on April 23. Many, but not all, of the headwinds cited will abate after Q2, though he has argued before that the company's initial 2019 guidance "was simply too high to begin with," said Khanna. He expects the stock to find support near $24 and sees upside potential if Boeing's (BA) 737 Max challenges abate within 3-5 months, added Khanna, who keeps an Outperform rating on Allegheny shares with a $35 price target.
