Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
SHAZAM! EXPECTED TO REPEAT AT #1: AT&T's (T) Warner Bros.'s release of New Line's DC superhero movie "Shazam!," starring Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, and Djimon Hounsou, is again expected to take this weekend's top spot. Box Office Mojo is predicting a drop of 58% for an estimate of $22.5M for this weekend's domestic gross, pushing the film near to the $100M mark.
HELLBOY, LITTLE OPENING THIS WEEKEND: Lionsgate (LGF.A, LGF.B) and Summit's release of comic book reboot "Hellboy," starring David Harbour and Milla Jovovich, has already earned almost $1.4M in Thursday night previews, and is looking at an uncertain opening weekend against "Shazam!" Estimates for the film range from $14M-$20M. Also opening is Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal's body-swap comedy "Little," starring Regina Hall and Marsai Martin, which is expected to open at around $16M.
OVERALL PROJECTIONS:
1. Shazam!: $22.5M
2. Hellboy: $14M-$20M
3. Little: $16M
4. Missing Link: $9M-$12M
5. Pet Sematary: $10M
