Costco price target raised to $265 from $260 at Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Laura Champine raised her price target on Costco to $265 from $260 and reiterated a Buy rating following mid-quarter estimate adjustments. In a research note to investors, Champine says the most meaningful change made to her model is a slight increase to gross margin in fiscal 2020 and beyond as she expects increased penetration of private label product to continue to boost product margin. She also expects an acceleration from 5% same-store sales growth in the February quarter to 7% in the May quarter as weather improves.

Bed Bath & Beyond upgraded to Neutral from Sell at Citi
Citi analyst Geoff Small upgraded Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) to Neutral from Sell and raised his price target for the shares to $18 from $10 after taking over coverage of the name. Citi transferred coverage of Broadlines & Hardlines Retail names to Small. The analyst assumed coverage with Buy ratings on AutoZone (AZO), BJ's Wholesale (BJ), Home Depot (HD), Lowe's (LOW), O'Reilly Automotive (ORLY) and Walmart (WMT). The U.S. consumer remains on "solid footing" amid low unemployment, rising wages, declining gas prices, manageable levels of debt, and elevated consumer confidence, Small tells investors in a research note. However, he points out that we are in the ninth year of the current economic expansion and "the possibility of a macroeconomic slowdown cannot be ignored." The analyst prefers retailers operating in "defensive sectors that are less susceptible to disruption by online competitors," namely auto parts, broadlines and home improvement retail. Small also assumed Advance Auto Parts (AAP), Best Buy (BBY), Costco (COST) and Office Depot (ODP) with Neutral ratings.

Costco March comps to rebound, says Baird
Baird analyst Peter Benedict kept his Outperform rating and $250 price target on Costco ahead of its March comps results next week, saying he expects the month to rebound from a softer figure of 4.6% in February as the headwinds of weather and Easter calendar shift fade. The analyst estimates March comps to rise 7%-8% and believes that the company's "entrenched value position, loyal membership base, and emerging omni-channel sophistication" should sustain its standout position in retail.

Costco price target raised to $261 from $247 at Stifel
Stifel analyst Mark Astrachan said Costco's total and U.S. core comparable sales growth weakness in March "is a watchpoint," but he is more inclined to buy on weakness given that its comp growth still remains "distantly best-in-class." The analyst, who sees the consensus Q3 comp growth forecast of 4.6% for Costco as achievable, keeps a Buy rating on shares and raised his price target to $261 from $247.

After Engaged Capital, which has been successful with companies such as Rent-A-Center (RCII) and "has some credibility as an activist," announced that it had acquired an almost 10% stake in Del Frisco's (DFRG) and publicly disclosed a letter to management suggesting the company explore a sale, Loop Capital analyst Lynne Collier kept a Hold rating on the shares given her fundamental outlook but added that she sees the activist activity putting a floor in the stock. She sees a private equity buyer as more likely than a strategic one, the analyst added.

Brinker shares likely to remain range-bound, says Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Lynne Collier kept her Hold rating and $50 price target on Brinker after its Q2 results, saying that while it beat on the top line, in-line earnings were supported by a lower tax rate and margins were below her projections. The analyst warns that the "flow-through" beyond Q2 is likely to be muted as the guidance implies reduced demand, adding that investors are also concerned about comps' sustainability, particularly as Chili's laps its "3 for $10" promotion this summer. Collier believes that Brinker shares will be "range bound over coming months".

As previously reported, Stifel analyst Chris O'Cull upgraded Brinker to Buy from Hold as he thinks recent traffic improvement at Chili's appear to be from structural changes to the menu and investments in value, food quality, and an improved take-out experience. He believes many investors remain skeptical of Chili's ability to sustain same restaurant sales gains, so greater confidence in the outlook could be the impetus for an improved valuation, O'Cull tells investors. GameStop outlooks 'warrant ongoing caution,' says Baird
GameStop reported Q4 results below expectations, driven by weakness in pre-owned revenue and margins consistent with the holiday sales report, Baird analyst Colin Sebastian tells investors in a research note titled "Turnaround Plan Still Under Wraps; Lowering Estimates." Despite a "deep value opportunity" in the shares, GameStop's "cloudy" near-term and longer-term outlooks "warrant ongoing caution," adds the analyst. He lowered his price target for the shares to $11 from $12 and keeps a Neutral rating on the name. Sebastian, however, is encouraged by GameStop's "more flexible" capital allocation strategy and expected focus of the new CEO on operational efficiency.

GameStop (GME) downgraded to Underperform from Neutral at BofA/Merrill with analyst Curtis Nagle citing expectations for a deterioration in fundamentals. 3. Exxon Mobil (XOM) downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at Cowen with analyst Jason Gabelman saying the company is shifting to a counter-cyclical investment stage, which may pay dividends long-term but he does not believe investors are willing to wait for results. 4. Etsy (ETSY) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at BTIG with analyst Marvin Fong saying the current stock price embeds a "fair amount of future improvement," which yields a risk/reward that is balanced. 5. While Anderson is lowering his Q1 earnings forecast by 1c to $1.15 to reflect Dave & Buster's higher costs associated with more aggressive unit openings, he also raises his FY19 earnings outlook to $3.25 from $3.15 after its announcement of an expanded $200M buyback program.

SunTrust analyst Jake Bartlett lowered his price target on Dave & Buster's to $61, saying his competitive analysis work suggests that the company is faced with "continued headwinds" from "smaller 'eatertainment' chains and 2 other potential threats". The analyst believes that the combined 31 new location unit growth at Main Event, Punch Bowl Social, Round 1 USA, and Topgolf competitors will impact Dave & Buster's FY19 comps by about 150bps, with added SSS headwinds coming from the large and rapidly growing chains - Bowlero and Urban Air trampoline park. Longer term, Bartlett is keeping his Buy rating on Dave & Buster's shares, expecting the chain to "remain one of the fastest growing restaurants" and to "re-accelerate SSS as it improves its gaming content and food and beverage offering".
