Qualcomm price target raised to $89 from $75 at Canaccord
Canaccord analyst T. Michael Walkley reiterated a Buy rating on Qualcomm (QCOM) and increased his price target to $89 from $75 after the company reached a settlement with Apple (AAPL) that dismissed all worldwide litigation. In a research note to investors, Walkley says he assumes Qualcomm will start supplying 5G modems for future iPhone generations with sales beginning to ramp in 4Q20. He also notes that the licensing deal between the companies is a device-level licensing deal, which he thinks protects QUalcomm's long-term licensing business model.

JPMorgan upgrades Qualcomm after 'overwhelmingly positive' Apple settlement
JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee upgraded Qualcomm (QCOM) to Overweight from Neutral and raised his price target for the shares to $88 from $54. The stock in premarket trading is up 5%, or $3.82, to $74.27 after rallying 23% before yesterday's close. The settlement with Apple (AAPL) appears to be "overwhelmingly positive for Qualcomm despite the absence of details at this time," Chatterjee tells investors in a research note. The agreement includes a six-year patent licensing agreement and a multi-year chipset agreement, estimated by Qualcomm to drive earnings accretion of $2 per share, the analyst points out. Further, he believes the agreement opens up the opportunity for Qualcomm to resume chipset supply to Apple. Chatterjee says his upgrade of Qualcomm reflects a combination of upside driven by 5G leadership and dissipation of downside risks from litigations following the agreement with Apple.

Citi upgrades NIO to Buy after 47% selloff since March peak
Citi analyst Jeff Chung upgraded NIO Inc. to Buy from Neutral while lowering his price target for the shares to $6.80 from $7.20. BofA/Merrill this morning also upgraded the shares to Neutral from Underperform. Chung is in part making a valuation call with the shares down 47% since the early-March peak. He also expects a valuation "re-rate" of China's electric vehicle sector. NIO's Q1 shipments beat consensus and ES6 deliveries, which start in early June, should be faster than consensus expects, Chung tells investors in a research note. The analyst also believes NIO's customer base is less price sensitive due to its premium brand positioning. Share of NIO are up 14c to $5.45 in premarket trading.

The shares, after declining 47% from the peak in early March, have now factored in the company's lowered sales volume growth, Lee tells investors in a research note. The analyst views NIO's current valuation as fair and expects its volume sales to grow sequentially in Q2 relative to Q1. The company just launched a six-seater ES8, which should gain some popularity from consumers, says Lee. Further, NIO is arranging more test-drive events in more cities, which the analyst believes should help orders improve.

The shares, after rallying 19% year-to-date, reflect a more balanced risk/reward, Rakers tells investors in a research note. His downgrade is valuation-driven but also reflects a more cautious view on current semiconductor demand data points going into Q1 earnings. Further, Intel's comps thru 2019 are tough, and investor sentiment could become "more tempered" amid increasing visibility into AMD (AMD) share gain momentum, contends Rakers.

Cowen moderates near-term expectations for cannabis group on supply constraints
After hosting investor meetings with the management of Tilray (TLRY), Cowen analyst Vivien Azer said that Canada clearly remains supply constrained and that Tilray, with its asset-light approach, is overexposed to this supply tightness. Independent of commentary from the meetings with Tilray, Azer lowered her revenue estimates throughout her Canadian cannabis coverage as her current read suggests that Q1 growth will likely be modest. Despite her moderation of her near-term expectations, Azer keeps Outperform ratings on Aurora Cannabis (ACB), Canopy Growth (CGC) and Tilray (TLRY) and maintains a Market Perform rating on Cronos (CRON).

Narrow U.S. cannabis bills have better prospects than broad ones, says Cowen
Cowen analyst Jaret Seiberg said it is hard for him to see a scenario in the 116th Congress in which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell holds a vote on legislation to fully legalize cannabis, as too many senators see no political upside for McConnell to schedule such a vote. Given this view, Seiberg believes that prospects are better for narrower bills that could get attached to spending packages and other measures than for broader bills that would legalize recreational use. Of the narrower bills introduced in the U.S. so far, Seiberg believes the SAFE Act on cannabis banking has the best shot before the 2020 election. Publicly traded companies in the cannabis space include Aphria (APHA), Aurora Cannabis (ACB), CV Sciences (CVSI), CannTrust Holdings (CNTTF), Canopy Growth (CGC), Cronos Group (CRON), General Cannabis (CANN), India Globalization Capital (IGC), MediPharm Labs (MLCPF) and Tilray (TLRY).

Canopy Growth Q4 revenue estimate lowered at Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Lavery trimmed his Q4 revenue estimates for Canopy Growth to reflect a more conservative build, based on early quarter Health Canada data. Based on April channel checks, product supply to retailers has recently improved, and stores are now maintaining some product inventory, Lavery tells investors in a research note However, Health Canada January industry data show industry momentum ramping up a bit more slowly than expected, adds the analyst. As such, Lavery lowered his Q4 revenue estimate for Canopy Growth to C$96.8M from C$117.6M. Capacity, scale and execution will continue to matter for the next 12-24 months, as growing supply catches up with strong demand in both Europe and Canada, says the analyst. Constellation Brands' FY20 guidance looks conservative, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Dara Mohsenian said he was surprised by the magnitude of the "relief rally" in Constellation Brands (STZ) shares following the company's Q4 report given that the company reported greater than expected near-term EPS dilution from its low-end wine sale, realized a lower than expected multiple on the wine transaction and unexpectedly did not provide forward guidance for Canopy Growth (CGC) equity losses. With that said, he sees "two clear positives" emerging from the quarter: the fact that fundamentals in the beer business remain solid and the fact that he sees solid visibility that Constellation can hit the high end of if $8.50-$8.80 FY20 EPS guidance, leaving aside Canopy equity losses. The analyst lowered his FY20 and FY21 EPS estimates to reflect dilution from the wine asset sale and trimmed his price target to $230 from $233, but he keeps an Overweight rating on Constellation shares.
