Samsung retrieves Galaxy Fold test devices after defect reports, Reuters says

Samsung is retrieving all Galaxy Fold test devices given to reviewers as the company faces a reputational blow after delaying the release of its first foldable smartphone, Reuters' Ju-min Park reports, citing sources. Several technology journalists reported breaks, bulges and blinking screens after a day's use of the $1,980 devices and Samsung postponed its launch for an unspecified period as it probes damage reports. DRAM monthly contract pricing declined sharply again in March, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Weston Twigg notes that inSpectrum released its March monthly memory contract pricing this morning, with price declines in line with expectations. The analyst anticipates DRAM price declines to continue through the second half of 2019, though the rate of decline will likely decelerate. Twigg also anticipates NAND bit supply growth to drop below 30% on a year over year basis in the second half of the year due to scaling inefficiencies and limited capacity expansion. Despite near-term demand headwinds in both DRAM and NAND, he continues to anticipate meaningful long-term demand growth as new demand drivers, such as 5G, hyperscale, and edge/endpoint devices, continue to expand. Further, the analyst views the DRAM market as likely healthier and more profitable than NAND over the long run given just three main producers - Micron (MU), Samsung (SSNLF), and SK Hynix -, strong long-term demand drivers, and rational capacity expansion. However, NAND pricing could stabilize sooner than DRAM, and NAND shortages may emerge as early as Q3, he adds.

Cowen says Pure Storage benefits from NAND oversupply, upgrades to Outperform
Cowen analyst Karl Ackerman upgraded Pure Storage to Outperform from Market Perform as he expects Samsung (SSNLF), which controls about 38% of the NAND market, to maximize share over profits, which he thinks should push NAND prices down at least 40% for calendar 2019. Pure Storage (PSTG) is the most significant beneficiary of this dynamic and a "pure play" on NAND oversupply, said Ackerman, who sees demand elasticity for all-flash arrays, most notably Pure Storage's all-flash array portfolio. He raised his price target on Pure Storage shares to $30 from $20, stating that he believes the company's transformation toward a Storage-As-A-Service model warrants a higher stock multiple.

Apple iPhone inventory/demand remains stable, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh says his latest carrier checks indicate Apple (AAPL) iPhone inventories have stabilized in March with sell-through tracking largely in line with stores' expectation. Meanwhile, feedback on the Samsung (SSNLF) GS10 has been "overwhelmingly positive," as most stores believe the new features have been a factor in driving sales, and keeping inventories at healthy levels, he contends. Given stabilizing iPhone trends and better than expected GS10 demand, the analyst sees favorable risk/reward for the mobile supply chain. Vinh recommends investors buy Broadcom (AVGO) and Qorvo (QRVO).

ASML price target raised to $225 from $195 at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Mitch Steves raised his price target on ASML (ASML) to $225 and kept his Outperform rating ahead of its March quarter earnings. The analyst expects the results to be "largely in-line" but also contain bullish commentary for the second half of 2019, which he sees as a "focal point given investor focus on Extreme UltraViolet, or EUV, ramps" to finish this year. Steves adds that he is positive on the EUV demand debate, with his checks suggesting that the 5nm products are "tracking to plan". The analyst further points to "recent news articles suggesting that Samsung (SSNLF) is ramping up EUV-related CapEx."
