'GODZILLA' EXPECTED TO EASILY TAKE TOP SPOT: AT&T's (T) Warner Bros. "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," the sequel to the 2014 reboot of "Godzilla," is opening in over in 4,100 locations, and is expected to domestically earn in the range of $50M-$55M, well below the $93M opening weekend of the 2014 film. "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" has already brought in $6.3M from Thursday night previews.
'ROCKETMAN,' 'MA' ALSO OPENING: "Rocketman," from Viacom's (VIA, VIAB) Paramount, and "Ma," from Comcast's (CMCSA, CMCSK) Universal, are also opening this weekend. "Rocketman," a musical biopic of Elton John starring Taron Egerton as the singer, is expected to open in the $30M-$35M range. "Ma," a horror thriller starring Octavia Spencer, is opening at over 2,800 theaters, and expected to gross in the $15M-$17M range.
