"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Lionsgate's (LGF.A) "Angel has Fallen" opened to $21.3M at the North American box office to win the penultimate weekend of summer. The pic all but matched the $21.6M debut of “London has Fallen” in 2016, not adjusted for inflation. The movie received an A- CinemaScore and 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "Good Boys" came in second in its sophomore outing with an estimated $11.8M for a domestic cume of $42.6M and $49M worldwide. Behind it was the new "Overcomer," from Sony's (SNE) Affirm films, which grossed $8.2M. Disney's (DIS) "The Lion King" placed number four with another $8.15M in its seventh weekend for a domestic total of $510.6M. Rounding out the top five, Comcast subsidiary Universal's "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" earned an estimated $8.1M.
