Citi double downgrades PG&E to Sell after Tubbs fire allowed to go to jury
As previously reported, Citi analyst Praful Mehta double downgraded PG&E, to Sell from Buy, after a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in San Francisco allowed PG&E to hold on to sole rights to construct a chapter 11 exit plan but also allowed the Tubbs fire to be tried in jury trial in California state court. The Tubbs fire, which could an incremental $15B in total liabilities for PG&E, is "too big" and a jury trial is "too risky," said Mehta, who slashed his price target on PG&E shares to $4 from $33, stating that the difference in target is due to now incorporating $15B of Tubbs wildfire liabilities in his estimates.

PG&E price target lowered to $13 from $24 at UBS
UBS analyst Dan Ford lowered his price target on PG&E to $13 and kept his Neutral rating after a "surprise" court ruling in California lifting a stay on individual lawsuits for 2017 Tubbs fire damages. The analyst notes that the news adds to the uncertainty around the timing and the value of the company's potential reorganization and warns that the outcome of court-ordered jury trials could vary from zero to up to $20B, with "damages up to 3-times the base".

Mizuho views changes to California bill as 'constructive' for state utilities
Early Friday morning the California Senate released their changes to AB 1054 which addresses the wildfire risk for each of the state's utilities, Mizuho analyst Paul Fremont tells investors in a research note. The analyst views the changes as "constructive" for the California utilities. Utilities will fund $7.5B of the $18B Wildfire Mitigation fund, and will be able to get recovery, but not a return on, $5B worth of wildfire mitigation capital expenditures, the analyst points out. Further, until PG&E (PCG) emerges from bankruptcy, which is expected in March 2020, the Wildfire Mitigation Fund will only pay out 40% of allowed claims, adds Fremont. He keeps a Buy rating on Edison International (EIX) and Neutral rating on PG&E.

Ulta Beauty price target lowered to $270 from $340 at Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Anthony Chukumba lowered his price target on Ulta Beauty to $270 and kept his Hold rating, saying that after "relatively strong" performance over the past few quarters, the earnings miss and lowered guidance were surprising. The analyst contends that slow cosmetics sales trends are not expected to reverse in the near future, even though he sees Ulta Beauty as well positioned given the "continued deterioration of the mall-based department store channel" and thanks to its "top-notch customer loyalty program."

Ulta Beauty price target lowered to $286 from $380 at Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Michael Binetti maintained an Outperform rating on Ulta Beauty, but lowered his price target on shares to $286 from 380 following the company's Q2 EPS miss and lowered FY19 EPS guidance. The analyst noted that he was unclear as to why Ulta Beauty cut its second half guidance "so significantly after what sounds like a very short-term change in the trend line."

DaVita price target lowered to $65 from $78 at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Frank Morgan lowered his price target on DaVita to $65 and also reduced his FY19 EPS view to $3.93 from $4.12 after its management provided initial FY19 operating income outlook of $1.54B-$1.64B relative to consensus of $1.62B. The analyst notes that the company's near term is likely to be impacted by "industry headline risk, potential margin pressures due to increased scrutiny of dialysis rates, and ongoing labor cost growth", but sees dialysis as a "steady, stable, defensive industry over the long term, with predictable patient volumes and strong cash flows".

DaVita downgraded to Neutral at Baird
As reported previously, Baird analyst Matthew Gillmor downgraded DaVita to Neutral from Outperform as key catalysts that supported his thesis have played out, including stock buybacks and the DMG sale. Despite a discount valuation, fundamentals are slowing and there are a lot of regulatory and reimbursement uncertainties facing the company. Gillmor lowered his price target to $65 from $70 on DaVita shares.

Although Gillmor said his enthusiasm for DaVita has waned recently, he believes it still has a favorable setup and thus maintained his Outperform rating on the shares.

Johnson recommends that investors remain on the sidelines until there is greater visibility in its potential to generate profitable growth.

Morgan Stanley says Activision reported 'clean beat,' ups target to $57

He is encouraged by the company's expense discipline and expects successful new game launches, including Call of Duty Mobile and Call of Duty Modern Warfare, later this year, Nowak tells investors. He keeps an Overweight rating on Activision Blizzard shares.

Activision Blizzard target raised to $55 on 'strong' Q2 at Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson raised his price target for Activision Blizzard to $55 from $52 saying the company posted "strong" Q2 results, but guided Q3 below consensus and fiscal 2019 guidance was raised by less than the Q2 beat. The outlook may disappoint some investors, but it is typical for Activision to guide conservatively this early in the year, with the majority of revenue still to come in the second half, Olson tells investors in a research note. As such, he maintains an Overweight rating on Activision shares.

Holiday video game slate less crowded this year, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson sees a less crowded holiday video game title slate this year versus 2018. There are actually more titles launching in holiday 2019, but fewer large titles, suggesting gamer wallet share will be more concentrated, Olson tells investors in a research note. Most notably, Take-Two Interactive's (TTWO) Borderlands 3 and Electronic Arts' (EA) Star Wars Jedi, incremental titles that can expand an established player base, could be beneficiaries, says the analyst. Further, Activision Blizzard's (ATVI) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could draw in lapsed players, particularly with the inclusion of cross-play, adds Olson. The analyst's survey of over 500 gamers showed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Star Wars are "top of mind." Take-Two and EA have the most near-term upside potential but with a "strong" 2020 slate, Activision "may be the best longer-term bet," Olson writes. He has Overweight ratings on all three names.
