Semiconductor Capital Equipment group cut to Neutral at DA Davidson on valuation
As previously reported, DA Davidson analyst Thomas Diffely cut his ratings on Lam Research (LRCX), Kulicke and Soffa (KLIC), Ichor Holdings (ICHR), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Advanced Energy Services (AEIS) to Neutral from Buy as part of his broader research note downgrading the Semiconductor Capital Equipment group following its "significant" year-to-date appreciation. The analyst cites the delayed recovery in memory along with the "cycle uncertainty" in assigning more "conservative" valuation multiples to these stocks and believes that their risk-reward profiles look "fairly balanced" at current levels. Diffely also lowers his price target on Lam Research to $200 from $225, Kulicke and Soffa to $26 from $30, Ichor Holdings to $25 from $32, Applied Materials to $45 from $55, and Advanced Energy Services to $55 from $60.

Fly Intel: Top five analyst upgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst upgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Westlake Chemical (WLK) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Goldman Sachs with analyst Robert Koort saying the stock's 49% decline over the past year has created an opportunity to gain exposure to two commodity cycles that are bottoming, ethylene and chloralkali. 2. Zillow (ZG, Z) upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Guggenheim with analyst Jake Fuller saying its recent results prove that demand for Offers "is real" and he expects the company's Offers business to surpass its ad business by Q4 and generate greater than $1B of revenue in its first full year. 3. Chevron (CVX) upgraded to Conviction Buy from Buy at Goldman Sachs with analyst Neil Mehta saying Chevron's cash flow profile has positively inflected with the production contribution and capital spending roll-off from the startup of both the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects. 4. Hess Corp. (HES) upgraded to Equalweight from Underweight at Capital One with analyst Phillips Johnston saying he reviewed his model post Q1 earnings and "massively" overhauled his Guyana production estimates. 5. Susquehanna upgrades Advanced Energy to Positive on Applied Materials gains
As previously reported, Susquehanna analyst Mehdi Hosseini upgraded Advanced Energy (AEIS) to Positive from Neutral, stating that he believes the company is poised to benefit from market share gains made by its largest customer, Applied Materials (AMAT). As Hosseini told investors in his separate upgrade of Applied Materials to Positive, his recent checks suggest that the company has won "major" memory design wins that should help it regain lost share. He thinks Applied gaining memory share is "particularly positive" for Advanced's semi system business unit, the analyst stated. Vishay price target lowered to $15 after pre-announcement at Stifel
After Vishay (VSH) pre-announced June quarter sales and gross margins that came below its previous guidance, citing weaker demand, primarily from distribution, Stifel analyst Matthew Sheerin said he thinks the news "should come as no surprise to investors" considering the recent negative tone from several component suppliers and distributors. However, the magnitude of Vishay's miss reflects a deeper correction and increased pricing pressure, said Sheerin, who thinks the correction could last well into the first half 2020. Given the warning, he lowered his estimates and cut his price target on Vishay shares to $15 from $18 and keeps a Hold rating on the stock. Sheerin added that he sees risks to estimates for a number of component suppliers, particularly those with high exposure to distribution, such as AVX (AVX), Kemet (KEM) and Littelfuse (LFUS), and to distributors Arrow Electronics (ARW) and Avnet (AVT).

Arrow Electronics price target lowered to $68 from $76 at Citi
Citi analyst Tim Yang lowered his price target for Arrow Electronics (ARW) to $68 from $76 following the company announced weaker than expected preliminary June quarter results. The component business is the main reason for the negative guidance revision, driven by worse-than-expected demand in Asia and slight weakness in Europe and North America, Yang tells investors in a research note. He keeps a Neutral rating on Arrow Electronics. Further, the analyst says the company's announcement is negative for Avnet (AVT), who he notes has 100% revenue in the component distribution business versus Arrow's 70%.

Piper Jaffray analyst James Fish is keeping his Overweight rating with a $55 price target on Cisco but notes that his "theoretical" sum-of-the-parts valuation exercise on the company's various product lines and segments gives him a base case valuation of $57 per share. The analyst contends that while he is not calling for a split of the business, he also believes that the stock warrants a higher valuation than the market is offering. Strong business momentum, growing enterprise demand for Atlas and, leverage to multiple positive secular trends should drive results above consensus expectations, Reback tells investors in a pre-earnings research note. He also expects management to walk up fiscal 2020 guidance, but cautions that the company's comps get tougher in the second half of the year, especially Q3 subscription license. The analyst remains bullish on MongoDB's ability to continue driving 40%-plus recurring revenue growth and improving profitability. Reback keeps a Buy rating on the shares with a $180 price target.

MKS Instruments price target raised to $115 from $100 at Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank analyst Sidney Ho raised his price target for MKS Instruments to $115 from $100 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. MKS' semis business remains stable and is not yet at an inflection point, but its diversification strategy remains underappreciated, Ho tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes that with ~50% of its business not directly impacted by the semi cycle and with organic and non-organic growth opportunities in other advanced markets, MKS is set up well to be less volatile than its semicap peers and to potentially outgrow them. He views the stock as "mispriced" at current levels.

The time to buy Portola Pharmaceuticals is now, says Citi
In a post-earnings research note titled "The Time to Buy is Now," Citi analyst Yigal Nochomovitz raised his price target for Portola Pharmaceuticals to $51 from $50 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The analyst continues to believe Andexxa can be a ~$250M product in 2020 and ~$550M by 2022. Getting to half a billion in sales would require one use per month per hospital, assuming "only" ~1500 active hospitals, which is "very achievable," Nochomovitz tells investors in a research note. This means Portola's fair value is ~$50 per share, not the market view of $27 per share, says the analyst.

Ambarella, Silicon Labs could be next as semiconductor M&A heats up, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh believes semiconductor M&A activity is starting to heat up again, and sees diversification into secular growth areas in IoT, automotive, and cloud, and increased scale and customer breadth, as key underlying deal drivers within the space. Companies that could be acquired next include Ambarella (AMBA) or Silicon Labs (SLAB), he contends, while expecting Broadcom (AVGO), Applied Materials (AMAT), Intel (INTC), NXP Semiconductors (NXPI), Skyworks (SWKS), Texas Instruments (TXN), and Xilinx (XLNX) to be the most acquisitive.

Crowdstrike price target raised to $103 from $89 at BofA/Merrill
BofA Merrill Lynch analyst Tal Liani noted that he had expected and incorporated some share gains for Crowdstrike (CRWD) from Symantec (SYMC) in his model, but following the recent announcement that Broadcom (AVGO) intends to buy Symantec's enterprise business he sees the potential for those share gains to accelerate. Liani, who raised his price target on Crowdstrike shares to $103 from $89, reiterated a Buy rating on the stock. Aside from the potential for Crowdstrike in antivirus, Liani sees other areas of cyber security where Symantec leads and he could see shares losses should Broadcom's deal create any uncertainty around Symantec's roadmap or commitment to R&D in the space. In email security the beneficiaries would be Proofpoint (PFPT) and Mimecast (MIME) and in secure web gateways the beneficiary could be Zscaler (ZS), Liani noted.

Macquarie sees limited impact on Crowdstrike from Carbon Black buyout
Macquarie analyst Sarah Hindlian says he's been fielding numerous questions on implications from VMware's (VMW) purchase of Carbon Black (CBLK) with Crowdstrike (CRWD) investors concerned over its Dell (DELL) channel partnership. The analyst, however, sees little impact on Crowdstrike. While the Carbon Black purchase could create "some nepotism" in the Dell channel in favor of the Carbon Black product, Crowdstrike's March 2019 partnership is limited in size and unlikely to affect the company's trajectory, says Hindlian. Further, she believes the company's larger opportunity is Symantec's endpoint revenues. Ultimately, the analyst views Crowdstrike as best in class for endpoint security products.
