Outperform
Microsoft assumed with an Outperform at RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Alex Zukin assumed coverage of Microsoft with an Outperform rating with a price target of $160, up from $153. The analyst believes that the company is "best positioned to outperform" over the next several years as it becomes a "strategic partner" to digital transformations among large enterprises, with mission-critical capabilities of its key portfolio assets - Azure and Office365. Zukin adds that Microsoft's Q1 revenue and earnings should see a "typical" period of outperformance, as he raises his FY20 EPS view by 6c to $5.21 and sees expectations of a 55% Azure growth next year as "reasonable".

High growth software valuations to contract further, says Jefferies
High growth software valuations are now trading above terminal M&A multiples, suggesting we still have more room for multiple contraction, Jefferies analyst Brent Thill tells investors in a research note. As such, the analyst expects the short term correction will continue "given multiples remain elevated even with last week's correction." Thill favors platform names with attractive growth and reasonable valuations like Microsoft (MSFT), Salesforce (CRM) and Intuit (INTU). He also favors names like SailPoint (SAIL), Zuora (ZUO), and Varonis (VRNS). The analyst believes these names have the potential for revenue reacceleration over the next year.

Slack overhang from Microsoft competition should dissipate, says William Blair
After hosting investor meetings with Slack Technologies (WORK) management, William Blair analyst Bhavan Suri has "increased confidence in the story." While there was plenty of focus on the competitive environment with Microsoft (MSFT) and its Teams offering, much of the conversation also focused on the company's internal growth initiatives, its ability to continue winning large enterprise customers, its customer acquisition strategy, and the path to free cash flow breakeven, Suri tells investors in a research note. Management views Slack as having a different value proposition than Teams, says the analyst. Although the Microsoft overhang may remain with the stock for the next couple of quarters, it should dissipate over time as the company continues to execute and showcases its ability to win customers that are also using Office 365 for other functions, Suri contends. He believes Slack is well positioned long-term to continue "winning in the space" and sees a "long growth runway" for the company. The analyst keeps an Outperform rating on the shares.

Microsoft partners look to have finished ahead of plan, says Cleveland Research
Cleveland Research analyst Ari Terjanian said his checks suggests Microsoft partners finished ahead of plan in the company's fiscal first quarter and they are modeling Productivity and Business Processes and Intelligent Cloud results that are ahead of consensus. Feedback on the More Personal Computing segment is more mixed at partners, with strength in Win10 migrations and M365 upgrades seen being offset by some headwinds in PC and gaming, added Terjanian, who reiterated his Buy rating on Microsoft shares.

Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall raised his price target for Netflix (NFLX) to $308 from $288 following quarterly results. While the analyst thinks the market is less likely to get as negative as it has been on subscriptions in the near-future, it is also "tough to get too positive" amidst Disney+ (DIS)/Apple+ (AAPL) launches. He reiterates a Market Perform rating on Netflix's shares.

Wedbush incrementally confident in Apple iPhone growth story into 2020
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives says his checks from his TMT Asia trip have revealed a number of new takeaways that give him incremental confidence in the Apple iPhone growth story into 2020. The analyst believes China demand is tracking roughly 15%-20% above expectations on iPhone 11 thus far and will continue to be a major driver of strength over the coming quarters. From multiple checks his TMT team has picked up that overall iPhone 11 demand is trending "much better" than expected, which further confirms his iPhone units forecast of 185M for fiscal year 2020 is "very hittable" and could show further upside especially as iPhone 11 Pro continues to also track ahead of expectations in the U.S. Ives has an Outperform rating and $265 price target on the shares.

iPhone Pro lead times shortening, still ahead of last year, says Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Matthew Cabral says that as of Friday, wait times for the iPhone Pro/Pro Max have shortened by about 1 week since the prior Friday, but remain constrained at greater than 1 week in each of the eight geographies he is tracking with the exception of the Pro Max in China. Pro/Pro Max wait times continue to compare favorably versus last year's XS/XS Max release when equilibrium was reached within three weeks, and are increasingly supportive of the near-term trajectory of iPhone demand, he contends, adding that the most notable change versus a week ago is the durability of iPhone Pro wait times which now stand almost a full week longer than Pro Max, the opposite dynamic to what was seen last year. Cabral has a Neutral rating and a $209 price target.

Apple price target raised to $280 from $250 at Raymond James
Raymond James analyst Chris Caso raised his price target for Apple to $280 from $250 and reiterated an Outperform rating ahead of the company's September quarter results. In a research note to investors, Caso says his longer thesis regarding optimism for the 2020/21 5G cycle remains unchanged, and adds that more stable near term conditions coupled with the launch of a new SE model in early 2020 creates a bridge to the 5G, which he feels will continue to squeeze the stock higher.

Tesla Q3 expectations elevated, says RBC Capital
RBC Capital analyst Joseph Spak is keeping his Underperform rating and $190 price target on Tesla ahead of its Q3 results. The analyst contends that rumors of the start of Model Y production before the previously expected late-2020 period suggests that the demand for Model 3's in the U.S. may be waning. Spak estimates that Model Y U.S. opportunity could be as high as 200K units, but warns that Model 3 may see cannibalization of 20% in the U.S. and 15% internationally from Model Y launch.

Tesla's deliviery guidance 'ambitious,' 'difficult task,' says Wedbush
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives reiterated a Neutral rating and $220 price target on Tesla, saying he continues to be cautious on the story ahead of the company's Q3 results on October 23. In a research note to investors, Ives says that while the company did hit the target set back in July to sequentially increase the amount of vehicles delivered, he notes that it was only by about 1,700 units and that in order to hit its ambitious unit guidance of 360,000-400,000, the company will have to deliver about 105,000 vehicles in Q4, which he continues to view as a "difficult" task. Ives expects China will be a major focus of the company's conference call, as it remains a hot topic among the Street.

Tesla alone in 'positive sum game of growth and earnings,' says Jefferies
Tesla when reporting Q3 results should show progress on industrial margin, Shanghai ramp-up and future products, Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois tells investors in a pre-earnings research note titled "Positive sum game continues in Q3." The launch of competing electric vehicle "continue to underline Tesla's product edge in our view, especially at the Model 3 price point," writes the analyst. He believes that as electrification accelerates, Tesla is the only manufacturer "in a positive sum game of growth and earnings." Houchois anticipates a number of announcements in the course of Q4, possibly on the October 23 earnings call, regarding the timing of Model Y launch, unveiling of the pick-up, battery technology update and ramp up of the Shanghai facility. These will support Tesla's valuation multiple, which currently reflects the lack of legacy issues rather than growth, says the analyst. He keeps a Buy rating on the shares with a $300 price target.

Tesla price target lowered to $372 from $386 at Piper Jaffray

However, despite lowered near-term forecasts, the analyst says his earnings estimates for Tesla "remain comfortably above consensus" in both 2019 and 2020. Potter trimmed his price target for the shares to $372 from $386 but maintains his "bullishness on TSLA overall."

BofA says Intel faces 'achievable' bar, AMD's higher but 'could get close'
BofA Merrill Lynch analyst Vivek Arya offered his Q3 preview for Intel (INTC) and AMD (AMD), maintaining Buy ratings on both stocks ahead of their upcoming earnings reports due on Oct. 24 and 29, respectively. Intel, whose stock has underperformed the PHLX Semiconductor Sector Index (SOX) year-to-date, faces a lower bar given persistent concerns about competition, shortages and gross margin pressure. These concerns are well known, though, and demand stability in PCs and a recovery in cloud capex could help the company deliver against the "muted bar," contends Arya. Meanwhile, expectations are "steeper" for AMD, but he thinks Q4 sales guidance of at least $2B would be viewed as "good enough" as long as AMD shows gross margin leverage, the analyst tells investors.

Hold
Intel data center growth to be eroded by AMD's new technology, says Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Cody Acree is keeping his Hold rating and $50 price target on Intel (INTC) ahead of its Q3 results next week. The analyst believes that the company will likely deliver in-line earnings and may even lift its FY19 revenue guidance again after a modest raise last quarter thanks to the strong back-to-school season sales of PCs/notebooks/tablets. Longer term however, Acree contends that Intel's market share may be challenged by AMD's (AMD) new server processors, noting that the latter's new architecture and manufacturing leadership will see a period of share gains eroding Intel's data center business growth.

Micron Technology (MU) last week provided November quarter guidance for a 37% year-over-year decline in sales and a further drop in gross margin, to 25.5%, Nomura Instinet analyst David Wong tells investors in a research note titled "Little Evidence of Recovery Yet." Further, August global chip shipment data showed a continuing year-over-year decline in the mid- to high-teens range, adds the analyst. Wong remains cautious on the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment industry overall.
