Alibaba Group (BABA) confirmed in a press release that it generated RMB268.4B, or $38.4B, of gross merchandise volume, or GMV, on November 11, 2019, an increase of 26% compared to 2018. Total GMV settled through Alipay was RMB268.4B, or $38.4 B in U.S. dollars. Alibaba continues to execute in 'challenging backdrop', says SunTrust
SunTrust analyst Youssef Squali nudged his price target on Alibaba higher to $212 from $210 and kept his Buy rating after its Q2 results, saying the company is executing "very well against a challenging macro backdrop" while also gaining market share. The analyst notes that the secular growth drivers for Alibaba, including rising China consumption and "digitization" of retail, are still in place, with added support from "healthy" household balance sheets. Squali believes that the company remains on track for "outsized" growth for years to come.

Alibaba Singles Day growth decelerating modestly, says Baird
Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said that Alibaba appears on track to report year-over-year "Singles Day" growth in gross merchandise volume of about 20%, or 18% in U.S. dollars. While this level of growth represents a deceleration from last year's 27%, or 22% in U.S. dollars, it is also a "less drastic" slowdown than last year's compared to the 39% growth rate in 2017, pointed out Sebastian. He also notes that an increasing portion of this year's Singles Day growth is coming from lower tier cities, adding that he views the slowdown as reflective of Alibaba's increasingly large base. Sebastian keeps an Outperform rating on Alibaba shares with a $200 price target.

Alibaba Singles Day growth likely beat investor expectations, says Raymond James
Raymond James analyst Aaron Kessler said he believes Alibaba's "solid" 26% year-over-year growth in local currency in Alibaba's Singles Day gross merchandise volume is ahead of investor expectations and leaves him comfortable with his customer management and commission revenues estimate of 86.7B RMB for the December quarter, which will be the company's fiscal third quarter. He reiterates a Strong Buy rating on Alibaba shares and continues to identify the stock as a Top Pick.

Stifel says Alibaba's more aggressive spending already priced in
Stifel analyst Scott Devitt said that comments made by Alibaba along with the company's fiscal second quarter report about aggressive spending in the back half of the fiscal year may cause concern for some investors, but he believes the more aggressive spending expectations are already largely priced into those consensus estimates. He added that the company reported a "solid" Q2 and he sees the company's investments in local services, international, logistics, and new retail strengthening the platform and expanding Alibaba's reach. Devitt keeps a Buy rating on Alibaba shares, but trimmed his price target for the stock to $220 from $225, primarily due to foreign exchange impacts.

Sonos rallies after DA Davidson calls 'natural acquisition target' for Apple
DA Davidson analyst Tom Forte reiterates a Buy rating on Sonos (SONO) with a $20 price target following Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) acquisition of Fitbit (FIT). The stock in early trading is up 82c to $14.28. The analyst sees Sonos as the most likely company he covers to have its shares rally from either an improvement in investor perception or a takeover. Sonos is the "best house" on the "bad block" of hardware companies, and is "adjacent to the mansion on the neighboring block, Apple (AAPL)," Forte tells investors in a research note. Similar to Apple, Sonos makes products that are superior to the competition, has an eye for design, and boasts a premium brand that enables it to sell its products at higher prices than others, the analyst says. Further, Forte believes that similar to Fitbit not getting proper credit for its healthcare-related efforts, Sonos does not get credit for its superior technology and premium brand. As such, he sees Sonos as a "natural acquisition target for Apple." Furthermore, while less obvious than Apple, Amazon (AMZN) could acquire Sonos to advance its connected home efforts, according to Forte. The analyst also thinks the company could go private given the "lack of appreciation by Wall Street."

Raymond James starts Lululemon at Strong Buy; Foot Locker, Nike at Outperform
Raymond James analyst Matthew McClintock started Lululemon (LULU) at Strong Buy along with Foot Locker (FL) and Nike (NKE) at Outperform as part of a broader Athletic wear research note, also resumed coverage on Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) at Underperform and Under Armour (UAA) at Outperform. The analyst contends that the industry is positioned well to continue "impressive" high-single-digit growth rate for at least the next decade amid a "mega trend" towards comfort and health/wellness. At Lululemon, McClintock believes that the innovation engine is "at full throttle" and the path for growth in international clear, claiming that the company is "in its own league" in terms of innovation and distribution and assigning LULU shares a $275 price target. The analyst has a $70 price target on Foot Locker, which he sees as "the single best distributor of premium athletic footwear product across the globe". McClintock believes the company can grow its earnings by 10% per year and revenue by 4%-6% per year for the "foreseeable future". The analyst has a $100 price target on Nike, citing the company's dominance in athletic industry and sees its earnings growing mid-teens with revenue up single digits and gross margins up 50bps per year. McClintock warns however that Nike may be challenged with achieving SG&A leverage in the near term "given the need to further invest in technology and supply chain." The analyst is bearish on Dicks Sporting Goods, noting that while the company will survive the "retail apocalypse" as the primary big box sporting goods destination, its earnings growth will be minimal in the long term and its valuation has become inflated by several years of easy comparisons. McClintock adds that the inventory growth at Dick's has far exceeded sales growth on "several occasions". The analyst assigns a price target of $30 to Under Armour, noting that the company has spend the past few years revitalizing its infrastructure after a a period of challenging results and now stands positioned to drive industry-leading shareholder returns over the next five years.

Under Armour downgraded to Buy from Conviction Buy at Goldman Sachs
Goldman Sachs analyst Alexandra Walvis downgraded Under Armour to Buy from Conviction Buy with a price target of $26, down from $33. The stock fell 18% yesterday as weak commentary on guided sales growth and the disclosure of a probe by Federal authorities relating to the company's accounting practices more than offset a stronger Q3 print, Walvis tells investors in a research note. While there is "quarterly choppiness in the turnaround story," Under Armour remains "on the path to recovery," contends Walvis. As such, she came away from the Q3 results with her long-term thesis intact. However, with details regarding the accounting probe limited, the analyst no longer sees Under Armour as one of her best ideas.
