Marvel Studios and Disney's (DIS) "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" stayed atop the chart in its third outing with another $31.6M from 4,534 theaters for a domestic total of $342.1M and $803.2M globally. The movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch is now the number 2 film of the pandemic era behind "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Downton Abbey sequel, "Downton Abbey: A New Era," placed number 2 with a $16M debut from 3,815 locations, and $35M overseas. Behind it was DreamWorks Animation and Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "The Bad Guys," grossing another $6.1M for a domestic cume of $74.4M and $182.2M worldwide. Paramount's (PARA) "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" placed number 4 with another $3.9M as it approached the $400M mark after finishing Sunday with $181M domestically and $375M globally. Rounding out the top five, A24's "Men" debuted in 2,212 theaters for an estimated $3.3M.
