Gilead Sciences announced…

Gilead Sciences announced that the European Commission has granted conditional marketing authorization for Veklury, or remdesivir, as a treatment for SARS-CoV-2 infection, the virus that causes COVID-19. The conditional marketing authorization was granted in the interest of public health due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was based on a rolling review of supporting data that began in April 2020. Under this authorization, Veklury is indicated for the treatment of COVID-19 in adults and adolescents, aged 12 years and older and weighing at least 40 kg, with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen. Ongoing clinical trials continue to evaluate the safety and efficacy of remdesivir, including studies of remdesivir in combination with anti-inflammatory medicines and in special populations including pediatric patients. Research is also being conducted on new, investigational formulations of remdesivir that may enable studies of remdesivir in earlier stages of disease. "We appreciate the European Medicines Agency's rapid review of remdesivir in recognition of the unprecedented nature of this pandemic. This conditional marketing authorization is an important step forward as we work together to address the treatment needs of patients across Europe," said Merdad Parsey, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer, Gilead Sciences.

MedMen Enterprises…

MedMen Enterprises announced the execution of definitive agreements with certain lenders, including Gotham Green Partners, Stable Road Capital and affiliates, and the company's "most significant landlord," Treehouse Real Estate Investment Trust, as part of a financial restructuring and turnaround plan to support the expansion of the company's retail footprint. The plan will defer approximately $32M in cash commitments over the next 12 months and provide additional balance sheet flexibility, the company said. As part of the plan announced today, the company and Gotham Green Partners have further amended and restated the securities purchase agreement that governs the convertible facility led by funds affiliated with GGP. In connection with the amendments to the convertible facility, the company is now subject to certain additional covenants thereunder, which are consistent with the company's internal business plan. The company is required to adhere to its turnaround plan for certain cash expenditures such as corporate expenses, capital expenditures and leases. The covenants expire once the company achieves two consecutive fiscal quarters of being free cash flow positive. "Implementing our turnaround plan is the best way to ensure that MedMen continues on its path to building the leading cannabis retailer in the U.S. We believe the widespread support we have received from our lenders and landlords will allow us to continue execution of the turnaround, continue to grow our best-in-class retail operations and drive towards positive free cash flow," said MedMen Interim CEO Tom Lynch.

Oil Action: Front-month WTI crude futures have dipped under $40.0, posting a low at $39.86 and putting in some more distance from Thursday's 10-day peak at $40.75. Prices still remain above yesterday's low at $39.46. The sharp rebound in oil demand from the April nadir has been priced in, with focus now on the coronavirus new infection rate as economies reopen, which has caused some areas around the world to re-introduce lockdown measures. This backdrop threatens to weigh on, or at least cap, oil prices.

FX Action: USD-CAD has steadied after posting a two-day low at the London open today, at 1.3543. Softer oil prices took the wind out of the Canadian dollar's sails. Front-month WTI crude futures are down over 1%, near $40.0, having turned lower from Thursday's 10-day peak at $40.75. The sharp rebound in oil demand from the April nadir has been priced in, with focus now on the coronavirus infection rate as economies reopen, which has caused some areas around the world to re-introduce lockdown measures. This backdrop threatens to weigh on, or at least cap, oil prices, along with curtailing the Canadian dollar's upside potential. A revisit of USD-CAD one-month high at 1.3716, seen last week, looks likely. Support comes in at 1.3484-1.3500, which encompasses the June-23rd three-week low. Canada releases its June employment report next Friday. Market conditions are thin in the absence of the U.S. today.

FX Action: USD-CAD eked out a two-day low at 1.3551, but has remained short of Wednesday's nine-day low at 1.3543. In oil markets, front-month WTI crude futures are down about 1% near $40.0, having turned lower from Thursday's 10-day peak at $40.75. The sharp rebound in oil demand from the April nadir has been priced in, with focus now on the infection rate as economies reopen, with some areas -- including various states in the U.S., the cities of Leicester in the UK and Melbourne in Australia, among other areas -- being forced to re-start economic-sapping social distancing rules. This backdrop threatens to weigh on, or at least cap, oil prices, along with curtailing the Canadian dollar's upside potential. USD-CAD last week peaked at a one-month high at 1.3716. Support comes in at 1.3484-1.3500, which encompasses the June-23rd three-week low.

Asian Market Update: U.S.…

Asian Market Update: U.S. markets are closed for the July 4 holiday weekend and bond markets in Asian traded mixed, while stock markets are holding on to modest gains. In FX markets USD-JPY was little changed at 107.52, AUD and NZD were supported. The stronger than expected payroll report out of the U.S. yesterday helped to underpin sentiment at the start of the session after a positive close on Wall Street. Most indices are off session highs, but still in positive territory. Topix and Nikkei are currently up 0.1% and 0.3% respectively. Hang Seng has lifted 0.8%, the CSI 300 also 0.8%, while the ASX is barely changed after erasing early gains. Final services PMIs out of Japan and China confirmed the strong improvements in June, with activity in China expanding at the fastest rate in more than a decade. The Japanese reading remained below the 50 point no change mark, but the past of contraction slowed sharply. Meanwhile sales in Australia rebounded as shops re-opened. At the same time a nearly 55k jump in new U.S. Covid-19 infections dampened sentiment in quiet markets. The front end WTI future meanwhile is trading at USD 40.19 per barrel.

Goldman Sachs analyst Richard Edwards downgraded Next plc to Sell from Neutral with a price target of 4,400 GBp, down from 5,300 GBp. The company's U.K. brand sales have been in decline for 4 years, driven by both declining like-for-like sales and market share losses, and the trend appears to be ongoing as Next Online exits lockdown, the analyst tells investors in a research note. The analyst adds that given the "online maturity" of Next plc, the Next U.K. brand online sales will benefit less than peers from the current COVID-19 related online penetration increase.

Tesla told staff that it ended a season of reduced pay for its salaried employees on June 29, 2020, as anticipated, CNBC's Lora Kolodny reports, citing internal correspondence. In mid-April, the car maker reduced pay for salaried workers by 10%-30% depending on their role, Kolodny says. At the time, the company cited coronavirus pressures on the business as a justification for the pay cuts, and said they expected the cuts to last until some time around Q2 of 2020, the author notes. In a new HR email, the car maker reiterated details about an upcoming performance review process, the author notes. Reference Link
