Bomardier (BDRBF) has approached Alstom (ALSMY) and Hitachi (HTHIY) in an effort to locate a merger partner for its rail unit as it struggles to contain costs that have negatively affected margins, Reuters' Pamela Barbaglia, Allison Lampert, and Gwenaelle Barzic report, citing sources. The Canadian plane and train maker is working with Citi (C) and UBS (UBS) to reach an agreement that could help form a rail giant to better compoete with China's CRRC, the authors say. Bombardier has been reviewing several rail merger scenarios in recent months which also involved a potential deal with Siemens (SIEGY) and a Chinese counterpart, though these options failed to gain traction, the authors note. Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Intel (INTC) downgraded to Sell from Hold at Loop Capital with analyst Cody Acree saying the company finished 2019 with solid performance and its Q1 guidance calls for "better than normal" seasonality, but he warns that the annual compares upside will "deteriorate quickly", with Intel's own 2020 guidance calling for just 2% growth in revenue. 2. Comcast (CMCSA) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at UBS with analyst John Hodulik saying he expects 2020 to be an "investment year" for the company as increased capital expenditure and investment in Peacock pressure its free cash flows. 3. Discover (DFS) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at Piper Sandler and to Underperform from In Line at Evercore ISI. 4. JetBlue (JBLU) downgraded to In Line from Outperform at Evercore ISI with analyst Duane Pfennigwerth saying he contends that the company's revenue execution has been mixed and "may continue to be two-steps forward, one-step back" given competition from both network and low-cost carriers. 5. Take-Two (TTWO) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at MKM Partners with analyst Eric Handler saying he maintains a positive view on its longer term position as the "best run publisher in the video games space" and points to its strong base of titles, but attributes the rating change to increasing concern about the lack of visibility in its 2021 content pipeline.
