Jefferies analyst…

Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois upgraded Tesla to Buy from Hold with a price target of $650, down from $800. The shares closed Friday up $25.54 to $480.01. Despite reducing Tesla's estimates, the analyst still sees 2020 revenue growth of 27%. The company's earnings and free cash flow will be supported by better productivity, stable average selling prices and income from zero-emission vehicle credits, Houchois tells inevstors in a research note. Tesla is the only "legacy-free" carmaker and is participating in "a positive EV sum-game," contends the analyst. Further, post COVID-19 crises, Houchois expects higher consumer support for energy efficient transport.

General Motors is…

General Motors is encouraging and empowering its suppliers to assist in production of medical face masks for frontline workers amid the coronavirus pandemic, CNBC's Michael Wayland reports. In a note to the suppliers, Shilpan Amin, GM's vice president of global purchasing and supply chain, said it is making the automaker's step-by-step manufacturing plans for the personal protective equipment available to any company willing to join in the cause. Amazon (AMZN) has been in…

Amazon (AMZN) has been in contact with the CEOs of two coronavirus test makers as it considers how to screen its staff and reduce the risk of infection at its warehouses, Reuters' Jeffrey Dastin and Krystal Hu report, citing internal meeting notes. The chief executives of Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) have told Amazon they would like to work with the e-commerce company, though the U.S. government is taking up all of their testing capacity at present, the notes said. As millions of Americans…

As millions of Americans heed government orders to hunker down, ordering food and medicines and books and puzzle boards for home delivery, many of Amazon's 400,000 warehouse workers have stayed on the job, fulfilling the crushing demands of a country suddenly working and learning from home, The New York Times' Karen Weise and Kate Conger report. For all of its high-tech sophistication, Amazon's vast e-commerce business is dependent on an army of workers operating in warehouses they now fear are contaminated with the coronavirus, the authors note. While Amazon's workers are not unionized, the crisis has given workplace organizers unexpected leverage to demand better pay, better sick leave and more of a voice in how the company is run. With everyone stuck…

With everyone stuck working and studying from home, Americans have become sensitive to any news about internet slowdowns, Eric Savitz writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Last month, European Union Commissioner Thierry Breton tweeted that everyone should all stream video in lower-quality standard definition in order to "secure Internet access for all." In response, Apple (AAPL), Amazon.com (AMZN), Netflix (NFLX), and Google's YouTube all announced plans to reduce their video streaming quality in Europe, the author notes. The good news is that U.S. networks are handling the traffic spikes without any major hiccups, with Comcast (CMCSA), the largest U.S. internet service provider, saying that its network is working well, with tests done 700,000 times a day through customer modems showing average speeds running 110% to 115% of contracted rates. AT&T (T), the No. 2 U.S. internet service provider, likewise asserts that its network is performing "very well" during the pandemic, Savitz adds, while Verizon (VZ) also saying its network is handling the traffic well. General Motors is asking…

General Motors is asking the White House to drop import tariffs on Chinese parts that the car maker requires to make ventilators, claiming that the levies will make it more expensive to manufacture desperately needed machines that can save lives, the Wall Street Journal's Katy Stech Ferek reports. In a letter to the USTR, GM officials asked the Trump administration to grant exclusions for several categories of ventilator parts made in China, Ferek says. The existing tariffs on such parts "could potentially impede the ability of GM and other U.S. manufacturers to source parts for critical care ventilators quickly, reliably, and at as reasonable a cost as possible," the letter says. Fiat Chrysler (FCAU)…

Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) announced that the Annual General Meeting of the company's shareholders scheduled for 16 April 2020 will be postponed to late June 2020, similarly to the corresponding measures adopted by several other manufacturers, in light of the continuing COVID-19 epidemic. This decision also results in the postponement of the resolution on the 2019 EUR1.1B ordinary dividend communicated at the time of entering into the Combination Agreement with Peugeot (PUGOY).
