Zoom Video named a top pick in Communications Software at BofA » 09:2207/2607/26/21
ZM, FIVN, RNG, EGHT
After taking a deeper…
After taking a deeper look at the impact of Zoom Video's (ZM) planned Five9 (FIVN) acquisition on both Zoom's model and on the broader competitive landscape, BofA analyst Daniel Bartus named Zoom a top pick for the Communications Software sector. While it is early for enterprises to consider Unified Communications as a Service, or UCaaS, and Contact Center as a Service, or CCaaS, together, he believes the trend of bundling is increasing and the long-term value of integrating is attractive, Bartus tells investors. Zoom-Five9 would be the strongest UCaaS/CCaaS combination in the market and the tie-up raises the competitive risks for vendors selling both, such as RingCentral (RNG) and 8x8 (EGHT), said Bartus, who has a Buy rating and $480 price target on Zoom Video shares.

Summit Insights analyst Jonathan Kees noted that Salesforce (CRM) reported a fiscal Q1 beat and raised its FY22 outlook, while also giving "bullish color" on SaaS trends and market demand during its associated earnings call. The results and commentary are "generally supportive" of the cloud market and subscription services, but he highlights ServiceNow (NOW), LivePerson (LPSN), and 8x8 (EGHT) as names that Kees thinks should "especially benefit more from the inferred macro tailwinds." Kees maintains Buy ratings on all three of those stocks where he sees Salesforce's results as "supportive," the analyst noted.

After Twilio (TWLO) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Zipwhip for $850M, Morgan Stanley analyst Meta Marshall said the acquisition builds on Twilio's differentiated platform and expands the company's ability to enable digital engagement for customers in a more personalized way. Zipwhip, which has about 35,000 customers globally, offers a solution that Marshall said is competitive with what RingCentral (RNG), 8x8 (EGHT) and other Unified Communications vendors offer to customers in the ability to use CPaaS features, the analyst argues. Marshall maintains an Overweight rating and $420 price target on Twilio shares.
