CEO Thomas Healy said, "With ample resources from our strategic combination, Hyliion is well-capitalized and primed to disrupt the powertrain market. Our focus in 2020 and 2021 will be to position the company for long-term sustainable growth, capturing the material market opportunity from the electrification of class 8 vehicles. Along the way, our dynamic and proprietary solutions will help our commercial vehicle customers change the way they view performance, total cost of ownership, data, and sustainability. In the third quarter of 2020, we made progress toward commercialization of our Hybrid and Hypertruck ERX solutions for the Class 8 truck market, while also establishing key partnerships. We are experiencing strong interest for our solutions and are utilizing our resources to develop a scaled infrastructure that will be able to support demand from this $800 billion market. Overall, I am pleased with the progress we have made as we remain on track to meet our product milestones in 2021."

JPMorgan analyst Paul Coster initiated coverage of Hyliion Holdings with a Neutral rating and $27 price target. The company could quickly enter the Class 8 truck components market with hybrid-electric low-emission propulsion systems at an attractive cost to fleet owners, Coster tells investors in a research note. The analyst views Hyliion as a "lower-risk pure-play" in the commercial electric vehicle space but adds that the hybrid-electric space "could get crowded quickly."

After two high-profile EV companies went public through SPACs earlier this year, at least six more EV-SPAC mergers are on the horizon, Nicholas Jasinski and Al Root write in this week's edition of Barron's. Nikola (NKLA) and Hyliion Holdings (HYLN) soared after announcing their since-closed mergers with SPACs and at one point this year, before its stock tumbled, Nikola was worth more than Ford Motor (F), the authors note. All the attention brings new importance to the next round of EV-SPAC deals, and investors should handle them with care, Jasinski and Root add. These SPAC stocks-already trading at prices that take into account the anticipated deals-have market values as high as $6.5B, the publication notes, pointing out that none of them get any coverage from Wall Street analysts. Bonitas Research issues cautious note on Hyliion Holdings » 12:1910/1610/16/20
Short-seller Bonitas Research issued a cautious note on Hyliion Holdings, saying Hyliion Holdings is a $4.5B market cap company that claims its current hybrid technology can be retrofitted to any Class 8 diesel truck for an immediate 30% fuel efficiency savings. The firm says there is not one scientific paper or submission that would back up founder and CEO Thomas Healy's 30% fuel efficiency claim. The firm adds that evidence reveals that Hyliion's proprietary battery management system technology was purchased for under $1M, equal to less than 1c per Hyliion share. Reference Link
