Stephens analyst Trey…

Stephens analyst Trey Grooms downgraded Martin Marietta Materials to Equal Weight from Overweight with a price target of $280, down from $309. In Q4, infrastructure shipments took a pause in several geographic markets with Martin Marietta infrastructure related shipments down year-over-year, Grooms tells investors in a research note. The analyst believes the backdrop of weakening highway contract awards "creates further question around the timing." This, when combined with "choppy" leading indicators for non-residential, and some concerns around how states will handle lettings ahead of the FAST Act expiring, creates uncertainty around the demand picture, contends Grooms. As such, the analyst thinks Martin Marietta shares "could take a pause until we get more clarity."

Citi analyst Anthony…

Citi analyst Anthony Pettinari lowered his price target for Martin Marietta Materials to $310 from $336 saying the company's miss in Q4 was driven by weaker than expected aggregates and asphalt gross margins. The analyst adds that while Martin's 2020 EBITDA guidance was light at the midpoint, he's encouraged by implied 2020 aggregates incremental margin guidance at or slightly above the company's long-term target of ~60%. He believes the aggregates margin headwinds will ease in 2020 and reiterates a Buy rating on Martin Marietta shares.

Nomura Instinet analyst…

Nomura Instinet analyst Michael Wood names Interface (TILE) his top pick in Americas Building Products for the Q4 reporting season. The analyst's Commercial Current Index increased two points to 53.0, indicating growth in November after "hovering around flattish territory" from early summer through October. Growth appears to be reaccelerating given stabilization in trade and the subsequent rally in equity markets, Wood tells investors in a research note. The analyst views Interface's set-up most favorably "given low investor sentiment, improving organic growth, and internally-driven margin initiatives." He also expects below-consensus initial 2020 frameworks from several commercially-exposed companies, including Armstrong World (AWI), Vulcan Materials (VMC) and Mueller Water (MWA). Wood adds that data continues to support his Buy ratings on Martin Marietta (MLM) and Vulcan.

Goldman Sachs analyst…

Goldman Sachs analyst Jerry Revich downgraded Summit Materials to Sell from Neutral with an unchanged price target of $22. The pace of the construction materials recovery is slowing, in contrast to bottoming machinery markets, which limits the prospects of multiple expansion for the stock, Revich tells investors in a research note. The analyst prefers Vulcan Materials (VMC) and Martin Marietta (MLM) over Summit Materials at this point in the cycle.
