The analyst is citing the backdrop of accelerating adoption of electric vehicles and the impending increase in demand for lithium. BMO Capital analyst Joel Jackson raised the firm's price target on Lithium Americas to C$20 from C$13 and keeps a Market Perform rating on the shares. The analyst notes that the company appears to have raised the majority of required first phase capital expenditure for its second lithium project - Thacker Pass Nevada clay development - thanks to the "elevated" share prices for lithium juniors. Jackson adds that he assumes construction will begin next year and first tonnes will be produced in 2025, even though "sizable work" remains to prove the site's "commerciality and reliable opex".
