Stocks pare gains as market stays cautious on healthcare deal prospects

Stocks remain in positive territory, but off their best levels, in afternoon trading. The averages moved off their highs when reports broke that the Freedom Caucus was offered a final offer regarding the Trump administration healthcare bill. By all indications, a deal has not been reached and a time has not been established to hold a vote. Advancing stocks are ahead of declining stocks by almost 3:1 while up volume is ahead of down volume by a little more than 2:1. Oil prices are a little bit lower but still below $48 a barrel.
