2018-03-23 13:07:08 | On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlightsFor the past week, redemptions outpaced creations by a factor of over 4.65 to 1 among the top twenty funds, per data from ETF.com. On the redemptions side, S&P 500 index funds accounted for over 39% of the over $22B in outflows. Just two funds accounted for the S&P 500 fund outflows, the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY). Dividend funds saw a very large redemption of over $7.7B in the form of the iShares Select Dividend ETF (DVY), Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD), and Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG). The SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA) and PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) also saw large outflows. Small caps accounted for nearly 9% of outflows, from the Vanguard Small-Cap ETF (VB) and the iShares Core S&P Small Cap ETF (IJR). On the creations side, over 28% of inflows were into the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM). Overall inflows reflected risk aversion with bonds (LQD, AGG), gold (GLD), and utilities (XLU) dominating. |
