On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlights

For the week redemptions came in larger than creations in the top twenty ETFs at a ratio of 1.29 to 1, per data from ETF.com. On the redemptions side, over 61% of outflows were from S&P 500 funds. Those funds included the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), Financials (XLF), and Utilities (XLU). Global funds in the form of the Vanguard Total World Stock ETF (VT) and SPDR Gold (GLD) also saw notable redemptions. The remainder of funds seeing outflows were substantially smaller in scale and without theme. On the creations side, S&P 500 funds figured prominently as well resulting in something of a net-neutral compared to outflows. The S&P 500 funds seeing inflows were the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), Invesco Low Volatility ETF (SPLV), the ProShares Ultra S&P 500 (SSO), and the Consumer Staples (XLP). These funds in aggregate totaled over 65% of inflows. This was the first week in months where fixed income products had not dominated.
