On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlights

For the week fund flows showed creations beating redemptions by a factor of 1.49 to 1, per data from ETF.com. On the inflows side among the top ten ETFs, the major indexes were the heavy favorites. The Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), SPDR S&P 500 Trust (SPY), and the iShares Russell 200 ETF (IWM) dominated creations at over 57% of flows and over 68% when other substantially smaller flows are included from sector and specialized index funds. On the redemptions side, the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) was the single-largest outflow at over 20%. Emerging markets had the next largest redemptions from the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM) and iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (IEMG) summing to over 29% of outflows. Energy comprised nearly 10% of outflow from the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) and iShares Global Energy ETF (IXC).
