2019-10-18 14:13:44 | On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlightsFor the week creations bested redemptions by a factor of 3.5 to 1 per data from ETF.com. On the creations side it was equity index funds in the form of the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY), Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), iShares Russell 200 (IWM), and Utilities (XLU) that constituted the bulk of inflows at over 54%. The other major inflows were to bond funds, but these were both high-yield; the iShares iBoxx USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG) and SPDR Bloomberg Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (JNK). Both of these trends support greater risk appetite. On the redemptions side the single largest outflow was from the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), but it was not substantive. The remaining outflows were not large but did represent s shedding of funds in asset classes considered to be indicators of "risk-off" investing. |
