On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlights
For the week creations bested redemptions by a factor of more than 1.32 to 1 per data from ETF.com. Unlike in past weeks there was not a great deal of thematic unity, with the exception that index funds were far less prevalent. On the creations side, four of the top ten dollar-volume ETFs accounted for more than 51% of total inflows. The Vanguard Small-Cap ETF (VB), iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT), and iShares ESG MSCI U.S.A. ETF (ESGU) dominated inflows. The remainder of inflows were substantially smaller. On the redemptions side, just two ETFs accounted for over 39% of outflows. Those ETFs were the Vanguard Short-Term Corporate Bond ETF (VCSH) and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY). As on the creations side, the remainder of outflows were without thematic unity and smaller in scale.
