2020-02-28 14:17:21 | On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlightsFor the sharp down week ETF flows were very large with dollar volume among the top twenty ETFs at over $30B out and over $8B in, per data from ETF.com. That puts redemptions ahead of creations by a factor greater than 3.6 to 1. The single largest outflow was from the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) at over 61% of outflows. Over 66% of outflows in aggregate were from S&P 500, when the Financials (XLF) and Industrials (XLI) are included. On the creations side three funds dominated; iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF), Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI), and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO). Those three funds accounted for over 48% of creations. Other bond funds had notable inflows in the form of the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND), SPDR Portfolio Intermediate Term Treasury ETF (SPTI), and iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (AGG) at over 26% of inflows. One interesting standout seldom seen at this size was inflow to the ProShares UltraPro QQQ (TQQQ) at over 6% of creations. |
