On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlights

For the week creations outpaced redemptions by a factor of over 1.5 to 1, per data from ETF.com. On the creations side, index trades dominated. The leading ETFs in descending order of dollar volume were the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM), Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI), Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF), and the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO). Most of the volume was in the QQQ and IWM at over 43% of the total weight in the top ten. On the redemptions side Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) and the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) comprised over 47% of the outflows in top ten redemptions by dollar volume. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) also saw a notable redemption at over 17.4% of flows. The remaining outflows were more scattered in theme and smaller in scale.
