2021-02-26 14:39:27 | On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlightsFor the week creations bested redemptions by a factor of over 1.7 to 1 per data from ETF.com. On the creations side the bulk of inflows were to S&P 500 ETFs. Those funds were the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), and Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF). Those funds summed to over 63% of flows. The second largest inflow group were ARK funds. In that group the funds seeing inflows were ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF), and ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW). Those three were 16.5% of inflows. On the redemptions side it was bond funds seeing an exit as interest rates spiked. Those ETFs were the iShares iBoxx USD Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (LQD), SPDR Bloomberg Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (JNK), iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT), and Vanguard Intermediate-Term Corporate Bond ETF (VCIT). Those bond funds constituted over 54.6% of redemptions. Gold was the second single largest outflow with the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) at 20% of redemptions. |
